Evening all, the cambelt is due to be changed on my 57 plate Passat, the local VW dealer (Gilders) have given me a price of £329 for just the cambelt and £399 for the cambelt and water pump.

Does anyone know of any reliable independants in the Sheffield area that can do the work? I took my previous Passat to an independant and I wasn't 100% happy with the work so this time I'm looking for recomendations :)

While it's in I want the oil and filter changed as well.

I received an email from site admin quoting a price of £245 for the cambelt/water pump and £45 for the oil and filter change but the garage in question is in Cheshire. I'd be happy to pay that but looking for somewhere local.

57 Plate - 2.0 TDI - 170 Sport

Many thanks.

Nick.

Pay the £399 and get VW to do it, you get the added back up that should it go wrong, they have to fix it for you FOC, an Indy will wiggle out when you ask for a £4k engine replacement.

Agreed. Things can go wrong but at least you know VW dealer will have to put it right. See recent thread http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?112230-VW-Passat-Snapped-cambelt-VW-Passat-TDi-BMR-Engine

I don't think indy's would deny all knowlege. Well I hope not. I'm sure BVR (sponsors on this forum) would not compromise a good reputation? Well I hope not as it's going in next Sunday!! Someone reassure me!!

BVR are the company in Cheshire I think? I wouldn't mind travelling as much but I understand it to be a 4-5 hour job? No idea what I'd do while they are sorting the car :)

Why dont you pop down to the nearest Skoda dealer and test drive the Superb 11 Elegance then tell us all what you think about it...............

I went to the VW dealer in the end at Meadowhead in Sheffield.

Because of a previous complaint from earlier this year (in which I already had a free service, seat belt pressure pad and seat belt clips replaced for free) I got the cambelt, water pump and a minor service for £369 all in.

They also corrected the service reminder on the replacement cluster Tom fitted for me.

Just picked it up 30 mins ago :)
