I find the Allroad grill a bit much, too much chrome, and thought about replacing it with something like an RS6 grill but was told that the only grill which will fit is the original, there are loads of options for a regular A6 but not an Allroad. Apart from taking it off and spraying it black, does anyone know of a more professional option?

Regards,

Michael

I would be surprised if the all road grill is different. Try an s line grill off ebay for about £40 second hand, you won;t have much to lose.

Hello, I contacted a company in Germany, AZA Gruppe, who sell new replacement A6 grills including RS6 and it was they who said that their grills would fit all A6s except Allroad. Regards, M

The Allroad grill is shorter than the standard grill. You can screw it on -except along the bottom- but it will look strange (see pic).
This also means of course that the standard grill is too big for the Allroad. You could hack the bottom off the standard grill, to make it fit, but it would look like Bodge-Jobs-R-Us.

Then your options are to keep the grill surround and do something funky like add black honeycomb to do an RS6 style grill. Or you could dremmel our some of the slats to make it look like an s6 style. either way, you could then get the grill painted a matt black.

Other option would be to remove the chrome and get the whole thing chromed black and put the grill back together.Personally, that is what I would do

That is valuable information AdiHH. Is the outer chrome plastic part detachable from the centre portion? If I got an RS6 honeycomb centre portion and trimmed it, could I fit it in the original Allroad outer trim? Refitting the Audi logo, quattro logo and number plate may be an issue.

Why is life never easy?

Thanks, M

I would like to change the appearance from this:

To something like this:

What do you think?

I looked up AZA Gruppe - they're (only) a VW/Audi dealer, so would get the same parts that a dealer in the UK or France could. For me, the safest plan would be to ask a paintshop if they would be able to paint a grill the way you want it. Then if they can, you order a new Allroad grill from your local Audi garage and get it resprayed and fit it. No point in ordering before you get a deal from a paintshop because a new grill will cost approx €250 plus paint job.

Hi All,

The black grill looks great. I've looked at my neighbours standard A6 and I can't see that it's shorter than the Allroad, so can someone clarify this please.
Thanks in advance :)

2 things from me.

Post up the dimensions of your all road grill as I have a spare surround and black internal se grill.

The other thing is that I can confirm that the chrome surround can be separated from the grill. I did a Frankenstein job on mine yesterday. I bought an s line grill with dented chrome surround for £25. I then took the chrome surround off my se grill along with the parking sensors etc and made up a perfect s line grill.

Willing to part with the old bits if it helps anyone aout.

My theory for your grill is that if the All road grill is smaller, you should be able to take and SE or S LIne grill and dremel it down to fit your all road specific chrome surround???

Hi,
Just measured the grill, and as best as I can make out it's 28"wide at the top 22"wide at the bottom and 18"tall. Hope that makes sense :nervous:

Piotrek,
Read this thread again. The question has already been definitively answered - the Allroad has a smaller (shorter) grill than the standard A6.

OK, the grill I have is 28" at the top, 22" at the bottom and is 18.5" tall. Therefore, the grill is bigger (no kidding!)

It would be easy to take a normal grill (SE or S Line), take the chrome surround off, and dremel the internals to fit the all road. Good news would be that 80% of the screw fixings could be used, meaning it would be secure in the surround. You would probably have to glue the bottom edge that you cut with the dremel.

If I was in your position, I would get an s line grill second hand and get frankenmodding!
