I've found a nice 2.7 SE model, full leather, FSH, clean HPI, Silver no dings, satnav, all the extras etc.
Pretty poor alloys to be honest being an SE model, but nothing a nice set of 19" bbs replicas couldn't sort out.
all good EXCEPT, it's done 150k.
It's available at 5750, and they'll probably take 5500.
Seems like a bargain to me, would anyone advice strongly against me going ahead with this?
I have 8000 cash ready to buy an A6 avant, it's difficult to find a nice model at the moment. I'd prefer an S-line but at this price, this SE model could be a gem.

I wouldn't have a problem buying one at that mileage as long as it had a full Audi or known specialist history which is a must.
I've seen A6's + A8's with 200k+ and they look brand new. Also drove a 2007 3.0TDi A6 with 180k a while back and it drove and felt just like my 63k car.
Also if looking at the avant, check to whether the rear wash wipe pipe has been replaced or fixed as they can leak causing ££££'s worth of damage to the electrics in the left and right hand side of the boot.

Gaz,
I assume your car was the C5 or earlier as the C6 didnt come with a 2.7 Bi Turbo. The 2.7 in the C6 is a TDi.

I hit 100k last night in the way up the M6 in my 2.7tdi SE Avant.
The only issue that I’ve had with the car is the rear wash wipe leak which has cost me £££ over the years and Audi are not interested even though there has been several recalls on it due to this issue. Check around the electronics in the boot for any signs of dampness.
Apart from this issue the car has been great without any problems.

I'm on 126k now and all is good.
I'd go for it at that price.

This is the thing with Audis - especially big engine diesels - go by condition and servicing ! alot of these cars will have been motorway munchers and been cosetted by a lease during the early years - So the milage wont put me off. I bought a 2.7 d with over 50k on it back in 2009 its now pushing 88k and it still feels like a new car - the body work is pristine and the interior hardly worn. If I wanted to I could turn back the clock to half the milage and it wouldnt look out of place ! Get it checked over and make sure it has been taken care of properly. Im planning on reaching 200k on mine and make it work for me. How could I replace the car with something similar with the creature comforts that it has ? Dont buy it as a sports car buy it as a barge and treat it gently - it will give you faithful service !
I bought my 06 2.7Tdi Avant A6 with 132K on the clock and a full Audi service history.
I certainly do not regret it, it's the best car I've ever bought.
I figured that I would only do half the mileage that it has been doing from now on and I'll keep the oil and filters changed and use this fantastic forum to help me fix any problems that come along, share my experience along the way. Nothing significant to report so far. I invested in VCDS software and have not found anything that I don't think I could do myself.
Jobs coming up
Front discs and pads
Rear pads (need VCDS to open up the caliper to service position)
Wheel bearing (not sure which one yet)
Get round to making a swirl flap control rod
Replace intermittent rear parking sensor
Maybe get round to mending the rear washer

Reads as a good buy. I'm coming up to 110,000 miles now and apart from the issue with the rear washer leaking and ruining the bluetooth module (replaced for circa £300 at an independant in Poole) it's absolutely fine. That said, I suspect the near-side front wheel bearing is on the way out (so it's going to another independant in Ferndown tomorrow for a look)
As far as the service history goes, my personal preference is for a local Audi independant to do the work (or BT Fleet at Nursling)
Servicing is pretty similar on most cars and you can supply your own oil to the Audi spec and save a few bob there. If you go the Audi route, then the Audi dealer in Eastleigh is very competitive and I had my 40,000 mile service done there. There's a lot of chat about the 'lad' doing the service at main dealers, so in days gone by, a local independant was often a time-served ex-make mechanic, who was very good with that make of car. Nowdays, I suspect that you'll find the technicians in most dealers are all well trained.
Just bought a Le Mans 2.7 S line avant in misano red (rarer than hens teeth up in Scotland in this colour!)2 months ago with 80000 on it. Had a full Audi lease service history and looks and drives like a new car This is my first Audi and i'm loving it.
I say go for it!!
hi all i am thinking of selling my a4 1.9 tdi sports avant and getting a 2.7 tdi a6 avant preferably s line could any one tell me what is the real world mpg also is it a timing belt or chain and anything i should look out for during my search . any info would be very welcome . thanks in advance
Reckon i'm getting high 30's /low 40's driving easy about town.
Dealer i bought mine from assured me it was a chain and not a belt. Ride is a bit harsh on badly potted roads but worth it for the s-line look.

As EDR says, the 2.7 and 3.0 TDi's are chain driven.
Ride isnt too bad but if you have 19" tyres the road noise is bad. Not too bad on smooth roads but on rougher ones at speed, its very noticeable. Also on my saloon I have genuine mudflaps fitted, so if going over speedbumps with people in the back or things in the boot, take it slowly 'cause you'll tear them off (like I did with one of mine :()
I have never found the ride hard or uncomfortable in my car and have never become tired or became plauged with aches from driving it but as I said above, road noise is poor with the S-Line drop.
MPG in my 3.0TDi isnt too bad for the size of engine( I know you're asking about the 2.7TDi but anyway). Town driving kills the mpg (20-31mpg) but on a long motorway run it becomes pretty impressive (35-41mpg) cruising with the CC @ 70-80mph.

I like the 2.7tdi it gives the best of both worlds. It gives round 35mpg round town if a auto and would say late 30s early 40s if manual and on a run easy mid 40s but course depends on your right foot

Oh No something went wrong with my 2.7TDi - coming up from Blackpool pulled into annandale services and had a coffee - got back out to the car started it up and the driver information display barked up a warning - one of my head lamps had blown.... This is the first failure the car has had. Trip up from Blackpool gave an average of mid fifties on the fuel consumption. Pretty impressed reset it before the trip down on Saturday. Big trip coming up soon - trip to Essex and London then back up probably going down Wednesday and back up Friday.

Hi ruggedscot
That is good i could get that from my 2.7tdi manual but would mean i would have to drive at 60. Did you do 60 all the way and with being gentle with the right foot

I watched my speed and took it kinda easy with the bad weather, but it was bad. Ill do a run this week to London and report back what the consumption is..... ;-)
