View Full Version : Bluetooth MMI Connectivity Problems.

I have recently purchased an 2006 A6 S-Line and I can't get the bluetooth to connect up properly with my phone. The MMI recognises the phone and syncs up the phonebook, and I can even make a call from the car. The problem starts when the person I am ringing answers the call, the bluetooth stays connected, but the radio comes on and the phone appears dead although the call is still live. If I take the key out of the ignition (turn off the MMI) the person can hear you and you can have a conversation, but as soon as the MMI is turned back on the car picks up the phones bluetooth and you can no longer talk to the person on the phone.

I have had a full diagnostic with Audi and it shows no faults, Audi told me that my phone (HTC Hero) was just not compatable, I have since tried two different IPhone 3GS that are supposed to be compatable according to Audi's web site and neither of them work either:zx11:
Any ideas?

Do you know what version of the MMI firmware you are running? There are some bluetooth/phone fixes in the more recent firmwares. The final version, assuming you have MMI High, is 5570.

Car -> Setup -> Settings -> Version. The first 4 digits of the top (SW) line e.g. mine is something lkike SW: 55.7.0 xxxx

Just been out to the car and checked, I have got four lines of codes
Top Line SW:C6-HU 34.6.0 0647

not quite the same as yours, the other three lines are

HW: C6-HU 6350D2.0
FC SW: 05035AFC6AB320050
FCPS: 0050 FC HW:H03

Ok, so you have firmware version 3460. In that case, I would recommend an update to the final version, 5570. The firmware is available as a 3-CD set from an Audi dealer, and should cost no more than £10. You can update it yourself (unless you can persuade your dealer to do it for you!).

Essentially you need about 90 minutes to do the update, and you need the MMI powered up during this time. The easiest way to do this, IMHO, is during a long journey! You'll need to apply CD1, CD2 twice in succession, and finally CD3.

The update will mean that you lose access to the MMI settings for the trip computer. This can be restored using VCDS afterwards, though I still haven't bothered.

It has been discussed often on here so you might want to find some of the old threads.

I don't have an HTC Hero, but I can pair an iPhone 3GS with mine.

Cheers Mate, I will give the dealer another call and get the updated firmware.

Hi guys!

have tried this update on my 2006 A6 S-Line, ive got the high BOSE colour MMI and have the connection prep part (i think) in the armrest and on loading the 3 update CDs... the second does nothing, first and third installed and updated to the 5570 version.

does this mean i dont have the bluetooth part?

any help would be amazing! :-D

For some reason you usually have to apply the second CD twice. That said, I recall that it did do something. So it is possible that your car does not have bluetooth (or that it no longer works). What happens when you press the Tel button on the centre console?

well when i click the tel button it just says i have not connected a phone, could it be i need to enable the bluetooth via vagcom?

No, that shouldn't be necessary. Have you searched for a bluetooth device from your phone? You have to do this within 10 minutes of unlocking/starting the car (can't remember which). If you get asked for a password it is one of the usual ones - 1234 I think, or 0000.

yeh searched a few times and nothing appeard at all... but my version was 2102 before upadating the firmware and while updating the second of the 3 cds which apparently has the BT updates didnt install anything could this be the problem?

That has me stumped I'm afraid. As the car is saying no phone connected I think that means that there is a bluetooth unit which thinks it is working (though it might not be). My car had some old version 2xxx firmware on before I upgraded it, but the bluetooth did work even then.

Can I suggest running the CD2 update again? I don't think it will matter that you have 5570 i.e. I don't think that should stop the bluetooth module update.

Also, can you try a different phone? The older the better!

haha yeh has me baffled too!! might pop into the local dealer and see if they can tell me what ive got... or wait till me vagcom cable arrives...

but now its been driven a couple times i might have a go with the cd again might do something, yeh trying an old phone might be a good idea... as i was using iphone 4

well i popped into the local dealer and was told that i dont have usable bluetooth, but i need a cradle to attach my phone and fit into the armrest... well i could work that out myself...

checking the MMI screen again when clicking the TEL button it says "telephone not installed" which the audi guy told me i dont have bluetooth at all...

think im going to wait till my hex-can cable appears and see if i can access the phone module there!

Also, can you try a different phone? The older the better!

tried it with a couple of older phones and still no bluetooth appeared
