Has anyone experienced a noisy load cover, my load cover is so noisy I've had to take it out :zx11:

I did read about the avant bootlid hinges drying out, my bootlid creaks like crazy everytime you go over a bump or something which flexes the body, any ideas ?

Grease? Lots of Grease! - well for the bootlid hinges at least!

How do you get to the hinges, they seem to hidden behind the headliner.

for any creaks, i usually pull the offending item apart and spray white lithium grease on the edges of the components where they joing and then reassemble.

I did this on the back of the centre console and arm rest lid and it is now completely creak free. I did notice the plastic liner on the boot lid itself was a little creaky when i touched it the other day so that might be on the agenda, and also the MMI screen surround (i might find a none grease solution for that one!)

Are you absolutely sure it is the load cover / rear bootlid?

I only say as I had a maddening noise coming from the rear of the car and literally stripped it all out including the load cover, luggage net, spare tyre, tools everything. I replaced items one by one and finally found it to be the luggage net - absolutely no idea why.

Although I suspect it may have been something to do with the spare wheel rubbing on the spare wheel well I'll never truly know.

I know this post isn't particularly helpful but maybe taking everything out and then back in may help!

Well the load cover makes no noise anymore as its sitting in the garage ! The other noise is definite body creak, to loud to be anything else.

I do remember reading somewhere there was a TSB out for the dry hinges but can't find it anywhere.

My Avant has a ridiculous sqeaking from the rear. It's only a few days old so I havent been able to see what it is yet, but I am thinking it's either the load cover or the spare wheel in the wheel well as it sounds like a rubber/plastic on metal sound.

If it's the load cover, it will be going into the dealers to sort.

i would take all the bits out until it stops squeaking, eg load covers (there are 2 of them), boot floot, side panels, tool kit, spare wheel etc. I know you shouldnt have to do it your self but i swear the techs at my dealer are deaf..... (no offence to techs on here!)

At least if it doesnt stop squeaking you can point them in the direction of what it is not.

I am currently in the process of trying to elminate noises from the front doors that they havent been able to fix in the last 3 years.

Mine's definitely the load cover. Took it off and left it in the boot, and there are no squeaks or rattles.

So, I guess a trip to the dealer is in order :( They'll love to see me again!
