Hi everyone I have just got a B6 07 170bhp Estate for the wife with DSG (her last car was a GTi golf DSG) and I find the car holds on to the rev until 2K in normal driving and I preffer to change up earlier. It wont change in to 6 until about 50. So is this normal?? It also seems a bit jerkier than the golf:confused: The car has 110K on the clock an 07 plate and other than that is great. I was truely amazed at how quick it is:biglaugh: Any thoughts appreciated. Oh I did try sport mode and that is different so not user error there:Blush:

Ok, here's what I think, you should undo the negative lead on the battery overnight, this will destroy previous owner learning patterns in the mechatronic unit, this should allow your style of driving to be adapted to.

6th gear doesn't appear until very late anyway, I can't say if it's 50 mph but I know you won't see it @ 40 mph this is to save labouring the engine which is bad for the crankshaft.

You may well know VW says a service for it every 40k on the DSG, this cost's £169 on the VW dealers that do the price promise, £200 ish from the ones that don't, look on VW site for details.

As for the jerking, this is a thing on the 2.0 PD cars, tends to flatten out once 3rd is engaged and is silky 3-4-5-6.

Some other things you might want to know as well, call VW and get the injectors and loom changed FOC while they are offering it, this is £3k of work and it's free, there will come a point where VW may find a wiggle solution to it so it's vital you get them done asap, also driving it gently isn't going to to help the car, the turbo will gunge up and you will get overboost faults, check your oil regularly as well, some like mine do 1L of oil to 2K of miles, the dipstick is a nightmare in itself, I find the best way is first thing before starting, dip it wipe it and replace it, leave it for 2 minutes and then pull it and check it, this method seems to give the true level a chance to attatch itself to the whole stick, otherwise you pull it and you see oil on the top and bottom balls which doesn't tell you anything, you need the oil to be on the thin part inbetween the balls to get a reading, hth, and don't mention it :D

Ok, done a bit of looking for you today, under normal boot 1 goes to 2 @ 1600rpm, 2 goes to 3 @ just over 2k rpm and the highest gear under 40 mph is 4th, hth.

Hi DSG4ME

can you elaborate on the "call VW and get the injectors and loom changed FOC while they are offering it, this is £3k of work and it's free"?

thanks

Do not ask the dealer.
Go directly to vW customer services, tell them you're scared it's going to break down and you understand they'll check it out for you just to be sure. Tell them you know that VOSA know about all of this.
VW will contact the dealer directly who will contact you.
I had my car less than a fortnight when I did this and suffered no breakdowns.
They replaced all four injectors plus the loom.

You'd be nuts not to, but do it directly through VW, not the dealer.

Hi DSG4ME and Zilspeed many many thanks I love this site and the really good people on it. The car has been in the VW network all it’s life and should be ok for the recall. I will ring them (VW CS) tomorrow and get this done ASAP. I take it this is for the 170 BHP only?? I also have a 140 A4 B7 that I use.
One other quick thing is wheel bearing noise coming from the rear as such. It could be down to castellated tyres I guess but just wondering if this is also an issue with the Passat as it is with the Golf and A4.

My car is a 140bhp BKP engined car, I also have DSG. Mine had the injector issue.
My understanding is that it is BKP engined cars, but you would be advised to check for yourself.

Hi Zilspeed will check the A4 is a BRE engine so mo oil pump issues either.

Mines a 140 BKP also, if yours is a 170 it's a BMR engine iirc, that doesn't mean it's not effected, although iirc they do have a different injector, a look in the handbook in the tech specs will say, if they say Siemens Pizzo they are the bad boys, if they say Bosch then you should be in the clear.

Did some more speed test today, 5th drops in at 42 mph, and most of the gears hit 2200 rpm before changing up, so I think there's nowt to worry aboot there either.

Mines a 170 (BMR) engine and I had all the injectors and wiring loom replaced 2 weeks ago FOC, even though I had no problem. You'll be mad not to get this done now while VW are bending over backwards.

Booked in via VW UK to the dealer this Friday so will update when I know what will be done. Thanks all for the helpful advice.

3 injectors replaced and the difference is amazing thank s to all who helped. One happy owner. The smoother idle and engine seem to make the DSG work even better.

Thanks. Rang VW customer service, and was told to book cars in with dealer to check the part numbers against the known defective ones.
