I have recently bought a newer A6 a 3.0Tdi Le Mans which has a built in Satnav, what a complete crock of cr*p.
When you try to enter a post code, it will only accept five digits of your seven digit postcode.
I thought that perhaps I was doing something incorrectly or hadn't fully understood how to enter a destination.
So I go to my local Audi Dealer and explain the problem fully expecting them to show me how it should be entered.
Imagine then my utter astonishment to be told:

"Oh yes, you can only enter five digits on the postcode, the UK and Netherlands are the only two countries in Europe who have seven digit postcodes, so I said what have Audi done about this then?

"Nothing" was the reply.

But I said, if you select SO158 as the nearest to SO15 8LP you have a street index covering something like 10 square miles and about 4200 streets what bl**dy good is that?
If you know the street name fine but what if you have just the postcode? My Tom Tom which incidentally is cheaper in it's entirety than the Audi Satnav 2011 street upgrade (£142 +VAT) will get you anywhere in Europe by postcode.
So I asked whether Audi are to produce an upgrade so you can use it properly with a UK postcode.
The reply?
"No"
I must say I find it unbelievable that a car like the A6 which is supposed to be synonomous with good design and quality has a satnav which is incapable of getting you any closer than 10 square miles from your intended destination and Audi are happy to stand back and do....nothing??????????????????

Even more unbelievable is that the satnav street upgrade disc for 2011 currently £142 +VAT costs over £35 more than an entire TomTom and still will be incapable of getting you any closer than a 10 sq mile box truly unbelievable.

7 digit post code is avaliable for mmi 3g+ new A6 & A8,A1,A7

audi uk pays the post-office for the full use of the 7 digit usage which is incorporated in the vehicle price

they only decided to do this from d4 launch and then all platforms supporting mmi 3g+ thereafter

i agree with you but that's the reason

Yeh Gaz

Im fully support what you are saying about the on board Sat Nav..... There is a guy on the net that can do the upgrade disc cheaper than £142 + Vat

I really dont like the fact that you can upgrade via the net plus you cant't store speed camera locations in the system so on this fact I dont really wanna be carting around a Tom Tom..

Best thing I was now looking at is using an IPhone at the Sat Nav and leave the in car switched off:biglaugh:

Hi swampey
I take it by doing that you will need a ipod connection to the mmi. On my older 57 plate i had 2.7tdi le-man which was fully loaded had an ipod connection in the glove box. I've just got a 2.7tdi s-line special edition on a 11 plate which has dvd sat-nav and i thought that it would be upgraded but it's not. how does the sat-nav come out thr the ipod on the mmi screen ( please bear in mind im crap on computers and tect )

Sorry to jump the thread, but I have a 2010 A6 Le Mans with the 3G MMI (Hard drive based) - can mine be upgraded/updated to take full postcodes ?

I think he meant that he just uses the Ipod unit as the satnav rather than using the in-car unit, not connecting the ipod satnav through the car.
