Evening guys.

Picked up my new car last weekend, I want to get the wheel alignment checked as when driving the steering wheel is slightly to the right.
The car doesn't pull in any way but I want the wheel to be straight.

My car is a 3.0 quattro so does it need a 4 wheel alignment.? And if so does anybody have any recommendations of somewhere to get it checked/done in the Hampshire (Southampton) area ??

And what sort of cost should I be looking at before I start getting quoted "specialist' prices.?

Thank you

Tony.

Hi Tony,

Yes a 4 wheel alignment is recommended for the quattro. I got mine done from the local audi dealership, they charged £80 about 10 months ago.

Good luck,

Hi,
You need 4-wheel alignment and after it's done you will normally see a printout of the results, at least my dealer does this so you can see what the improvement is. I really felt it too, especially on turning around on full lock, no scrubbing of tyres now. Was charged £95, but as mines an Allroad they said they also check the alignment at various ride heights. Not sure but sounds plausible :)

x2 to the two replies above. Definitely get a 4 wheel alignment done. Ive had mine lined twice by Audi, the first one at £98 and the second at £65 (for being a good customer ;))

The first time was when I first got the car and the second was when I bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sports (1k at the time!)

When I finish work tomorrow I'll get the printouts from my ever growing folder of receipts and invoices and post it up so you can see the outcome.

Thanks for the replies guys..

I phoned a local 'Protyre' today and the manager confirmed that they can do a 2006 A6 quattro.

As for price he said it'll be £25 if its just a simple 'tracking' issue but anything up to £80 if any camber adjustments are needed anywhere.

Not bad I thought, I'm taking it in tomorrow morning so i'll let you know how I get on..

Ok...

Took my car in Saturday morning and it needed all 4 wheels adjusting.

I picked the car up about an hour later and paid the garage £79 for their trouble, but driving down the road things wernt quite right.
The car drove dead straight and felt better than it did when it went in, but the steering wheel was at about the 1 o'clock position...!

I had to be somewhere so called the garage when I arrived, they were very apologetic and said to bring it back in.

I managed to get back not long before closing time and they checked things once again.

This time somebody sat in the car and held the steering wheel level while things were adjusted just incase the clamp had slipped or something or the steering wheel moved due to the very light steering

....driving down the road and things wern't any better really.
Called them this morning and they sounded quite embarrrsed and said to bring it back again.

I can't fault the service of the garage (pro tyre) but is their anyway or anything you have to do when doing the tracking on an A6 because of the variable steering weight thing.?? (sorry I don't know the corect name for that)
