Hi guys,
Just got my new registration document through for my Audi A6 i just purchased. I have one issue as the document shows the CO2 emissions as 226 G/KM which puts the car into the higher £450 a year tax bracket but looking at all the details on the internet my car should either be 219 or 223 G/KM. How can i sort this out?
The car is a Audi A6 2006 2.7 TDI quattro auto.
Ive never had this problem before ;)
Thanks

I think there was an engine design revision at around 2006/2007 so what your v5 says is probably true.
I forget who it was on here but their car is 3.0TDi 2007 and is £450/year and it's 226g but my car is a 2008 3.0TDi and only (!) £260/year.
I misread that your car is 2.7 not 3.0 :(
But the same probably still applies about the engine revision.

I have written a letter to the DVLA asking about it so will see what they say.
Thanks

No problem, I would be pretty annoyed if it turned out to be £450/year but hopefully some clarification from dvla should sort it.

Would it help if I told the DVLA i would drive it economically

Confused quite a bit, I thought the only diesel that was above 225 g/KM was the avant quattor version. I thought all 2.7 TDI's would be safe as houses for the bracket.
Really dont want to pay another £20 a year if i dont have to!
Anyway Audi could tell me? Or like everything else when you talk to them they will charge me ££££ to get the info.

Not totally sure, read the link I posted in the edit as it shows the differences dependant on when the car was registered.
Im not sure if Audi could tell but Im not sure about the mainlands MOT but does it mention on the certificate? NI's doesnt so taking a wild guess.

The car was registered November 2006 so the car should be in the 219 -223 CO2 band and therefore the lower tax bracket.

Well then it should just be a error in the V5 then. Hope DVLA recognise their mistake and its sorted out :)
Pity to the previous owner who has been paying more tax than they should be!

Yeah hopefully they can see the mistake and make the amendment. Like you say the previous poor sod for the past few years has been paying way too much tax. Strange how such an error can occur, I've never heard of it before.
Have posted the letter and will see what the dvla will say, I'm sure they have a way of checking and correcting.
Will post once I hear back from them.
Cheers

Hope you get it sorted.
My 2007 3.0TDI Le Mans Quattro Avant is marked on the V5 as 226 Co2/g.
The car was advertised as 225 C02/g.
When I was looking to buy the car I too noticed that there was a lot of diferences in the Co2/g figures.
Conclusion: Your 2.7 TDI should definitely not be as high as 226.
Love to hear what the DVLA say !

Well I just spoke to the DVLA and they said they would need written proff from Audi that the emmissions were wrong. I have spoken to audi too this mornign and they are going to look into it and check if an error has been made.
Interested to see what Audi say as all the info i can find points to the car either being 219 or 223 g/KM.

Its a start! Hopefully Audi will recognise, and along with the link that clearly shows your car was registered in the band which is £260/pa.
Good luck

If i am right I feel for the previous owner who for the last 5 years has been paying way too much car tax. Maybe he just didnt notice.

I have just bought a 3.0tdi quattro lemans saloon and it's in the lower tax band and is a '56' plate
But it was mentioned on here last week that the 07-57 3.0 were in the £450 band and are only 1gram over on emissions.

Well the enquiry is with Audi UK office now as the local dealer only has the car info etc. They should come back to me soon on it they said. Ive done even more digging on this and convinced the 11/06 car i have should not have 226 G/KM.
Its either 219 or 223.
Oh and they said if the data is wrong it might be a £50 admin charge to get it ammended. I didnt realise we now have to pay to fix other people error's.

The dealer called me on Friday to say that Audi UK have confirmed the CO2 reading is correct but they could not explain why. They have given me the number of the Momoligations department who deal with this but have so far been unable to get hold of anyone or have my phone call returned. I am interested to hear what they have to say.
Also to make things even more confusing i have the old tax discs for the car since registration. Some are at the lower band and some are at the higher band which is really strange. The most recent tax disc is at the £250 bracket when it should be in the higher bracket. How odd!

I made a comment in another thread (can't find it now) that the final official emissions depends on the options that are fitted to the car. So, for a given model, individual cars can have different CO2 figures. So, for instance, different wheel options or bodykits would affect the CO2 for the car etc. It's possible that you have options fitted that have increased your car's official CO2 figure.
I say this based on a caveat in our company car ordering portal that the CO2 figure was liable to change depending on options and that the final figure would be confirmed with the lease quote.

Yeah i saw that comment and wasnt aware of that until you mentioned it. I will keep that in mind when speaking to Audi UK, it may well be the case as you mentioned. Just weird that the previous owner was paying the £250 tax instead of the £450 tax. The banding hasnt changed so it must be the details in the system they have for it.
Thanks
John

You're right, that doesn't make sense at all? presumably the CO2 figure on the old tax disk is also correct? It's not a 6 month disk is it?

hi all,
well i finally heard back from Audi UK after my constant chasing today.Apparently there is no way the CO2 emissions can be wrong and even if they werethey wouldn’t change them and the car would stay as it was. Again they stillcould not provide me with an explanation why my car is set at 226 and alsocould not advise on similar cars that were registered at the same time and whatCO2 readings they had.
So my first experience of Audi UK was very poor, not because i didn’t getthe right answer i was looking for but for the simple 'like it or lump it'attitude of their staff. I’ve chased every day for two weeks to speak tosomeone which for a 'prestige' car maker is very poor.
A couple of hundred pound lighter in the pocket a year me thinks.

I would not bank on the so called prestige car maker meaning good service nowadays. None of the traditional ones care one bit as there are a steady stream of punters waiting to replace the unhappy ones.
Best I have ever seen (besides Rolls Royce/Bentley for obvious reasons) are Porsche & Lexus. Lexus are unbelievable in the lengths they will go to make you happy, plus there cars are always the most reliable.

I think the Auto 3.0TDi is in the higher band, but the manual, like mine, is £260

I've got a 2.7 tdi quattro avant tip and my yearly tax is £260 and on my V5 the CO2 emissions are 223g per mile
Odd, I have a A6 S-line, TDI Quattro Avant Auto 2.7 and V5 lists it as a 226G/Km date of first registration is 10/07/2006. I am paying £450 for mine.
Parkers shows this model as 225.

But it also has this..
Effective from 1 April 2011:
Registration Date 6 months 12 months First Year Rate VED Band CO2
1 Aug 2005 - 23 Mar 2006 £143.00 £260.00 - K 226 g/km
