im trying to replace a rear coil spring on a b6 as my old one snapped clean in half, the haynes manual says to use spring compressors but the spring is a double diameter and so most spring compressors dont seem to fit well enough to get the spring in place, any ideas?

You need a special single sided spring compressor to do this, something like this

Yes, they are expensive, mine was £500.
Try this on page 18 http://sykes-pickavant.com/Portals/0/PDFs/Suspension/Coil%20Spring%20Compressors.pdf (http://sykes-pickavant.com/Portals/0/PDFs/Suspension/Coil%20Spring%20Compressors.pdf)

done! but quite literally the most annoyingly awkward job ive ever done, haynes manual suggests just using a compressor and not undoing anything at all, ermmm no frankly that is ******** i had to undo alot of the rear of that corner to get the spring anywhere near in.
and hey presto my car now sits an inch higher on one side! knew i should have replaced the pair, anyone want to change a spring for me? :D please......

yeah mate 30 quid jobby from gsf, to be fair it doesnt help that i carry around 12-14 bowling balls in the boot along with a rather hefty sub enclosure and amp rack, the old genuine audi springs sat about an inch above the tyre rubber before snapping, im sure there wont be long before the other one snaps ill have to get it done before then as if it goes like the last one did and i happen to be moving it wont be pretty at all :S

The springs we fit re very carefully selected after much thought, otherwise we only fit genuine. It is more than annoying to spend hours fitting a spring only to find the ride height is wrong.
