To fit a cellular phone adaptor I removed the glove box in my 2008 A3 and disconnected the light/passenger airbag on/off switch connector.

I started the engine to test the adaptor with the glove box out of the car.

Now I've got the airbag warning light permanently on, is it because I started the engine with the glove box out the car?

Do I need Vag Com to reset it?

Thanks

I'm no expert, but it sounds like that's the most obvious cause.
I can't see that you haven't connected something up correctly, because it is just one connector to connect up to the glove box again. I am assuming this is what you have done.
Have you tried turning the passenger airbag switch on and off again? eg. try with it turned off -> start the car. Then turn it on -> start the car.
I'm just wondering if this may reset it. Otherwise I can only assume that you would need vag com because I can't see what else you can try yourself.

Tried those, can't reset it. Just called into dealer they reset it.

Didn't charge and gave advice not to start engine with any airbag disconnected, the computer remembers this and brings up the warning.

Thanks

Wow, no charge from the dealer?!
Thanks for that info as it's good to know.

Unfortunately not every dealer will do that though.
