A3 boot open switch

I've got the familiar problem of having had the washer water leak into the motor destroying that & now I've found the boot open switch's plug & socket contacts are tarnished giving me problems with locking & the alarm. How can I clean these up? Even if I replace the lock c/w switch, the plug in connector's contacts are also tarnished.

try some electrical contact cleaner from maplins...

I've tried a cut down nail file, of that doesn't work then will do, thanks
