Hi all. I have decided that i want to change my origional stereo (symphony 2) for the later rns-e headunit, or any other later headunit like that if advised otherwise :p. I understand that i will need the antenna for the sat nav and cd, but was wondering if the cd goes in the headunit or in a seperate unit in the boot?
Also, does the unit need programming to the car? if so, i have vag-com at the garage i work at but have only really used it for eml, abs and airbags so if this is the case, is it relatively easy to programme? thanks for any feedback :D

The navigation DVD (not CD) goes into the RNS-E. The drive is behind the screen.
It should be programmed with Vagcom, easy to do, takes 5 minutes.

I am currently considering doing the exact same upgrade. Was it straightforward, did you need any additional wiring/connectors and where did you place the GPS antenna? Thanks

You will need a wiring adapter if you have a B6. The GPS antenna goes under the dash, above the glovebox.
There are loads of threads on here detailing the process. It's easy.

I have a 2009 (58) B7 S Line Cabriolet, it has the hands free (BT) in the armrest and MFSW. Would this be a simple retro fit and because of the handsfree which works with my i phone can I assume there is already Bluetooth installed?

Thanks for the replies but I am looking for a simple answer as the guides confuse me, do I need to modify any wiring or is it simply plug and play once the GPS has been fitted?
Because I have a late model B7 is it simply remove existing double din symphony unit, using existing wiring/connectors, plug in RNS E, install GPS and away we go?
I understand there may be some coding required.

If your car did not come with RNSE you will need wires or adaptation harness that will plug into the existing one to accommodate RNSE, so the answer is Yes wires are needed,
You will need a gps as well, the are quite cheap, check on eBay.
Hope this Answers ur Q?
But have a look at the PDF and check online for more info.

For a 58 plate B7 you won't need a wiring adapter. Just a GPS antenna and some VAGCOM coding.

Thanks for the info Issac, my car came with RNS-E and I have read forums where the adaptation is needed so I assume it might.
Thanks

Just waiting for my RNS-e to be delivered from E-bay, hopefully it will be a quick and easy install.
The only issue is finding someone in Teesside with a VAGCOM and correct codes, any suggestions??

Just fitted a RNS-e unit off e-bay and placed the GPS behind the glovebox, it reads on average 5-8 satellites. However I am having problems with the Nav refreshing quick enough, it doesn't seem to keep up with the car. I fitted the GPS onto some metal bracing just under the passenger speaker area, could the fact it is on metal be the cause? The GPS does come with a magnetic base.

metal below the antenna is OK but there should be none above it. It should have a clear view of the sky above. (plastic and glass covering it are OK, hence under the dash/glovebox is fine as long as no metal covers it)
its worth scanning with VCDS as well, that'll ensure all the CAN connections are present and working correctly.

All is well, on the way to OEM Retrofits turned on the Audi Nav and it worked fine??? Even took the route shown on RNS instead of Tom Tom and it is quite good, not as detailed and user friendly as the Tom Tom but works fine.
Guys at Retrofit coded it for me so now my DIS, BT etc is set up and working fine. Happy days!!
