View Full Version : Air con problem, not pressure switch or compressor!

So, following the advice of many on here I've replaced both the pressure switch and compressor on my 2.5TDi Avant.

Pressure switch done last year, had it gassed the next day and it worked beautifully on the drive home. However compressor wasn't happy (grinding noises). Came out next morning and no air con. Assumed compressor fault.

Yesterday had compressor done, new belt and regas. Again lovely and cold on the way home. Come out this morning, again broken. ECON light on and warm air.

Do I have a slow leak? Is there anything else it could be?

Will take it back to the garage next week to be pressure tested but can't until then as busy this weekend.

Cheers

It needs a leak test.

If anyone is interested, it turned out to be a worn pipe. It was the really long (read: very very expensive) pipe which has a flexy section in it.

The solid end of the pipe had been rubbing on the fan surround and had worn through.

Now need to sell a kidney to pay for all the money this things cost me in the past year!
