Im picking a 58 3.0 S-Line up on Monday and im wondering how many keys I should receive?
I had two proper keys and a service key for my B7 so kinda hoping for the same.

Yup
Two normal keys and then a the slim black "emergency key"

also have a look in the manual, you should be able to check via the mmi to see how many keys are registered to the car. if you receive 2 main keys and it says 3 are registered you know there is an errant key out there!

And the slip-in "holder" for the emergency key.

^^ as above. 2 normal keys + 1 emergency key. Slip-in holder should be located in your glove compartment on the inner left hand side in a little pocket. The emergency key clips into the slip-in holder and you can then use it to start the car.

Dont know about you guys but i also got a code number in a clear plastic case with my keys. I dont know what its for but if anyone got a clue lets us know.

It's the last portion of your VIN; so at the factory and at the dealer they can instantly associate the correct keys with the car.

Iirc when had the A4 on loan is there not a button somewhere that shows how many keys are matched?

yep, its one of the settings in the mmi.
