Hi Guys, recently we brought A4 - 2010 from Audi dealer. With car they forced to buy Minor Repair Protection insurance for £500 - 3 year cover - against dents and scatches. it seems to be expensive one. As i am still under 14 days cooling off time i am thinking of cancelling policy.

Could someone suggest any good but cheap policy for scratches and dents - minor repairs...

Please help. Any Audi cover would be appreciated.
Thanks

I bought something similar on a car a few years ago. I'm assuming that the dent is only covered if it's smaller than a certain size and only on certain panels etc? I've had one dent in my life that was small enough to be covered, which a bodyshop knocked out for me for about £40, and that's the main reason that I now refuse to buy this sort of cover again.

It's a sad fact of life that cars get damaged. You can garage them and get the bus to work all you want but one day you'll go to the supermarket to bey a loaf of bread or something and somebody will open their door into it leaving a nice crease in the wing. Best just to bank the money and get it professionally sorted out IMO. There are a lot of specialists out there who are seriously good at what they do and have reasonable fees as well...

I'd use your cooling-off rights and cancel it ... in general policies that are sold by car/tv/washing-machine salesmen are a way of increasing their profit more than they are of benefit to you, or at least if you want such a policy, check for keener prices from specialist insurers ...

They tried this with me recently when I bought my A4, but I said definately no. Just to give you some idea, you could get nearly 7 minor dings fixed with £500 based on what I've paid dentsmart etc, so unless you are expecting a lot of scrapes, or park on the street with yobs constantly passing it doesn't stack up...

Yep..have to agree with the above. Fact is whilst your car is on public roads, you are going to get dents, scrapes, scratches etc...so not worth getting too stressed/upset by it.

Only way to truely avoid it is just keep it garaged..but then its a car at the end of the day, you've gotta use it for whats its meant for.

I have had some quite short but deep scratches SMART repaired on my front bumper, cost £160. So you probably need at least 3 repairs in the 3 years to cover the cost of the insurance.

Yep £500 is quite a few repairs from the likes of Chips Away. I love my car but I also realise it is my all-in-one workhorse and leisure mobile so whilst the interior is top notch the paintwork is far from mint. Contrast is my bosses Ferrari's which are absolutely impeccable (550 and F430 Spider) which are kept garaged and driven a few times a year and more an investment.

Personally I would bank that money to extending the warranty when it comes to it, as I have had to use my extended warranty for a blown turbo and it paid for itself just on that claim alone.

SMART Insurance. I was pressured into buying this with my new TT last year. Do be wary it only covers vertical surfaces ie doors & bumpers; it doesn't cover flat surfaces ie boot & roof! Now, where do you get most stone chips...?? I think they misled me as this insurance won't protect the value of my car, only parts of it.

You'd be better off sticking £15 a month in a bank account. That way, if you have a small dent needing repairing, the money is there for you (gaining interest, albeit not a lot). If you don't need it, you have a small lump sum of cash at the end of three years. Win win.

Aah Scott, I know. And now I get to do that as well as having the insurance! Two men and buying this insurance stood between me and the keys to my shiny new TT.... No way did they mention that only part of the car was covered, they just go on a lot about it protecting the resale value when I trade in. And now their considered response to my complaint was "what do you expect".
