Excuse my ignorance, but what would be the point of this, as the standard inter-cooler is
front-facing, has slots in the bumper and a cowl to direct air to maximize cooling on the
inter-cooler?
It seem to be a lot of trouble and expense for no gain.

You would have to be running some serious mods and boost increase to bother, the oem ones are quite good afaik, and they only let go with boost increases as they have plastic end caps, not alloy.

Yeah, i could see where it would be needed as an addition to an uprated turbo, injectors, pistons,
con-rods, cam and air-filter, but as a stand-alone upgrade there would be no point, except as a
visual mod for when the bonnet is up!! : )

Fair enough, in that case you could mount it and not plumb it in. ;)
Anyway, whatever you do, come back and post some photos of it.

Hi.
Consider a Forge SMIC upgrade (http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&catalog=0013). I fitted a rotrex supercharger to my Mk.4 Golf 2.0 8v (see if if you're interested: www.toffweb.com/tooleater.htm) and the Rotrex kit came with a 1.8T standard SMIC.
After a few weeks, I swapped it for a Forge upgraded SMIC and WOW what a difference - a lovely increase in torque!
So even if a FMIC is overkill... a Forge SMIC may be just the ticket! (they use the standard mounting points too). I'm not sure if the Forge 1.8T upgraded SMIC will fit the 1.9 TDI... but it's worth looking into.
Toff.
