After my experience with replacement of the catch on my A4 Avant, this may save a bit of trouble and damage removing it.
I had followed all the advice regarding removal of the catch including the small torx screw to the right of the catch mechanism, but all the pulling and prising of the catch it would not budge.
Only after busting the faulty one and marking the glove box did I realise the problem, namely that the brass threaded bush that the torx screw screws into had pulled out of the catch and into the hole preventing removal. I tapped the threaded bush back in with a small punch and out she came.
Hopefully should the same occur again this will prevent any of you marking your glovebox lids.
