I had the above warning flash up on the MFD last week. I took it to a friend to get the fault codes read and it came up as a 'Fuel temperature sensor - high circuit' or something like that - can't remember the exact terminology. Anyway, cleared the faults and drove for another week and all was fine... until last night when it reappeared. The car drives completely normally at the mo and I drove it into work this morning with no problems.

Does anyone know what exactly the issue could be? Just a faulty fuel temp sensor, or could there be something else underlying that is causing it? Also, is this likely to cause problems if I keep driving the car without getting it fixed?

Any info/advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The 2.0 pd tdi is pretty accurate with it's fault codes so you probably need a new fuel temp sensor unless you have some damaged wiring somewhere. It's ok to drive as the ecu will use the coolant temp sensor instead. Your mpg may drop a little if the fuel temp sensor fails completely.

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply, Martin!

Any idea on how much a sensor retails at and how physically difficult it is to change?

Fuel temperature sender 038 906 081 B Cost about £18 from VW. Couldn't be easier. In pipe between tandem pump on cylinderhead and fuel filter. Take off electrical connector. Pull out wire clip, pull sender out, push new one in, replace clip. Job done.
