Hi just wondering if any of you can help me, i have a 2.5tdi b6 and i have a power steering fluid leak which seems to be coming from the top of the reservoir i have removed the undertray and there are no other visible leaks. I have no noise or anything else coming from the steering but this needs sorting asap. Why would i have fluid coming from the cap as if its boiling over??? I am new to Audi's so please bear with me.

Has it been topped up recently?Have you tried taking some out so it is at the correct level?

So is it still rising up from the level ? We have 2 2.5Tdis and never seen that happen. Is the pump faulty?

Hi thanks for your reply as far as I know the pump is fine. There is no noise from the pump or rack just fluid leaking from cap area of the reservoir and I gather it's coming out of the vent in the cap. I have no idea why this would happen. Any help greatly appreciated

With the car running and the res cap off try turning the steering from lock to lock see if the fluid rises and flows out the bottle

Hi I have tried turning the steering with the fluid cap off and it seems to spurt out intermittently. There is a constant flow which I gather is the return feed from the pump and this flows steadily until I start turning the wheels which is when some spurts out the top. Any ideas??
Kind regards

I am wondering what is replacing the lost fluid and how long this would last without some sort of failure.Could there be something blocking the circulation and can the system be drained and refilled to see what comes out?

I am currently checking the fluid every day and topping up as and when necessary. Not ideal but safer than wrecking something. How would I drain the whole system, nothing looks very accessible.
Kind regards Scott

So are you having to top up cos the level falls too low and then it rises? If so sounds like some sort of blow back when the pump functions.Perhaps there is a non return valve which prevents this but I fear that you need expert advice but I hope that it is something simple and cheap to fix
