Hi guys,
I'm looking at a black s4 with a load of miles on it, 140k. How does this affect it's value and what is the expected life of the engine/car. It's a manual and has had a new clutch, flywheel and the timing chains have been done.
what are the pro's and cons of such a high mileage car?
would the engine be too 'old' for a lpg kit to be viable?
can i expect mid 20's mpg? or is that out of the question too!

thanks and hope to be able to make a bit of a more informed decision.

Paul.

Pros: It will be cheaper. Cons: Many!

You won't be able to get mid 20s mpg unless you drive like a granny but then why would you buy an S4? I have the 3.2 and I get low 20s around town and high 20s on motorways (maybe 30 if I drive like a granny ;) )

As for LPG, I dont believe FSI engines are compatible...

I think from what you are saying, the S4 is a non starter. shame really because it's a lovely looking car. just too many miles and too much fuel consumption!
I'll just have to keep looking then.
thanks for the advice
I think I just wanted confirmation of what I was thinking in the back of my mind, just wanted to believe that it was do-able!

I was very tempted with an S4 or even RS4 at a push, but the fuel consumption is what got to me too. I think that the 3.2 is the best balance of power/economy/sound out there. If you dont care about the sound too much then the 3.0TDI is really good. Almost as powerful as the 3.2 but with almost 50% more economy. It just doesn't sound nearly as nice....

20 mpg these days is just not viable. especially with fuel only going to get more expensive.
shame though, it's a pretty car.
I've had a 535d before and that flew, sounded good (for an oil burner!) and gave me 28.8 no matter how i drove it.
we will have to see what comes up.

A friend of mine has the A5 3.0TDI and gets just over 30mpg around town and close to 40mpg on the motorway.
