I had a 2001 a6 1.8t for few days day the car runs fine, when i first got it i noticed a smell of oil coming into dash whist stationery at traffic lights ect, upon inspecting the engine bay i noticed theres a y shaped breather at the back of the cam case its split and had dropped oil round that area, anyway today i sort of sealed the breather with some electrical tape to prevent more oil coming out think that was what was causing the smell, as soon as i sealed it i started the car and noticed there was a lot of white smoke billowing from the exhaust.

I am suspecting breather blockage but i am not sure where and how to start..... please please tell me its not turbo? like i said the car runs fine no management lights ect the smoke just came once a sealed the breather.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few items i would replace on the breathing system

See link : http://members.cox.net/ambox/audi_sludge/#CrankcaseVentilationAndOtherEnginePeripherals

i would replace the orange items plue No. 20 and remove No. 17 and clean the sludge out.

white smoke...are you loosing any water? or is the car getting hot? maybe worth getting a water compression test done. If your getting white smoke all the time then it could be head gasket problems.
