Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can help. I just bought a 07 plate a4 avant quattro. It is the first quattro I have owned and not sure what to expect. There is a slight shudder when taking off in first but more so when in full lock. Is this normal or is there a problem with the diff. I hope not as my last car was a lemon and thought these were bullet proof.
There is four new tyres all round but I noticed one of the tyres on the front is a different make. Would this cause a problem.
Any info in the shudder much appreciated.
Thank you
Gary

Mine does this too. I am told it is something all quattros do as they get older. If it is true or not I have no idea...
I spent months reading every forum I could find, and asking every mechanic I came across, but there seems to be no definitive answer as to why.
Personally, I find loading the car up and giving it some welly out of a junction on a hill will produce some horrible noises, whereas a flat, light throttle takeoff makes no noise at all.
Given that it has done this for the year that I have owned it, it hasn't got any worse, and the three different garages that have looked at it said it was nothing to worry about- I don't worry about it...
If anyone has the answer, however, I would love to stop it doing it, as I can't believe it is just something they all do, there must be a reason!

Mine does this too, when I pull out of drive, making sharp turn at low speeds. Think it must be something to do with the quattro system and distribution of torque, front wheels being at completely different angle to rears. It disappears if I take off some of the lock or accelerate a little bit. Or something like that...

Me too. My old B5 2.8 Quattro did it quite noticeably. My current B7 does it very slightly.
