Hi lads, i got a new cv joint fitted to my 04 audi a4 tdi about 2 months ago and recently i have started to hear a clicking or slight knocking noise in that area again when turning left or right....it does not happen until i drive a few miles then i hear it, i had a local mechanic look at it and he said no grease was leaking from the boot and it seemed fine but does any1 no what it could be??? Thanks

A CV knocking is a quite distinctive loud metallic click, which can be induced by applying the power,
in 1st gear, while on full lock. The timing of the knock increases with the speed of the wheel revolution.

Any other type of knocking could be related to suspension arms, ARB or even brake pads/calipers.

Does the clicking increase with wheel speed and can you feel it anywhere (steering, pedals etc) or just hear it?

it sounds like it could be gone again.:( Was it an OEM part installed and are you sure there was grease in there in the first place?

Which joint did you get done before (left/right)?

Left joint will sound more pronounced when locking right in first gear as Jim says and visa versa

I got the right one done and this is the one thats giving me trouble again. mechanic said it was finr and no leaking grease so i dont know what it could be

Is it the same mechanic that installed it inspecting it now? If so what does he think it is?

Why dont you pull the boot back and check for grease. If its really knackered you might even feel some play there.

I suspect the parts dept will be looking for the defective part before they consider reimbursing you, so be sure before you remove it its the problem.

Exactly the same symptoms as mine and I was convinced it was a CV but a local indi looked over it and could find nothing wrong. As there's no wobble/vibration etc I'm going to see if the symptoms develop or get worse and hope that makes a diagnosis easier. It's driving, handling and braking perfect so I'm a bit stumped.
