Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my A6 1.8 T petrol.

I had the oil seals in my turbo go so i spent a few months putting a second hand turboo on it. It started up and blew loads of smoke out which has now stopped and have later found out that this was just oil in the exhust.
I have been using it for a few months now and i have no acceleration, it seem really sluggish and no get up and go, i did an oil change and spark, filter change all while it was off the road, i also change the gear oil as i dropped it by mistake, so i put the oil back in it, i made sure all items that went on or in was VAG reccomended, i have a magnet on the injector rail which is ment to help with fuel economy. ( not sure about this )

Has anyone got any ideas as to why my car is running worse than my wifes 1.4 megane ?!?!

any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

You should start with a fault code read but I suspect you have no boost which could be the turbo itself or possibly an assembly error.

Hi guys,

thank you for taking the time for the replies.

as for the boost - i have wondered if it was the turbo that was at fault. But when i got it i done a good check over it and i made sure it was from the identical car and only had 80000 miles on the clock, not that is certain to be a good thing but i done all i could to ensure it was a good replacement.
I fitted it myself so i know that everything was done correctly so it wont be a build error.

i did have codes which corrisponded to the items i had unplugged to get at teh turbo and oil filter and they were cleared and checked after i took the car for a run so i know that side of it was ok.

Is there anything short of buying a new turbo that i can do to make this better???

And as for buying, if it is the magnet your talking about then yes i paid £2:50 for it, and im not over impressed to be honest !

thanks again, it is appreciated

As Crasher has said you need a fault code to start tracking down the reasons. You might not need a new turbo but until you know what the ECU's beef is you won't know what is required. The sharware version of VCDS will be fine for your needs and a cable is only £20 from Gendan (other suppliers are available), they are about £7 on flebay if you like a gamble, don't always work though.
