Hi all

I have a 2004 A8 3.0 tdi (63k on the clock) which I have owned for 3 years now without much trouble, and all in all I am very pleased with it, however recently I have had a few niggles with the most recent being the anti-roll Links on the drivers side needing replacing.

I tend to do most of the repairs on my car myself and while replacing the links noticed that the A8 has a lot of rubber bushings etc aroun the suspension parts and some of those look like they may need replacing soon...and that got me thinking about other possible issues one should expect on a car of this age and milage.

Does anyone have any thoughts on other things that I should check or keep an eye on.

Audi tell me that my car does not require a cambelt change as it has a chain rather than a belt so I am ok on that front...apparantley:Blush:

I forgot to ask is there any servicing that is required to the auto gearbox around the 63k miles.

an oil service for the auto gearbox is def not something I would try myself and so wanted to know if there is a certain amount of miles at which point it would need changing/servicing.

thanks again.

engine stuff that I did to mine @ 80k

the egr, and air intake's will need a good old clean soon. When the emission light comes on, be ready to take some of the air intake parts off to clean them. easy job.

MAF clean - easy job

AC may need re-gas - easy

as for the auto box.

if its holding onto gears too long, and/or clunking under heavy braking... then an oil flush makes loads of difference!

rest of the stuff that has gone wrong on my car was trivial.

thats all i can offer!

I'm on my 2nd d3 a8, old one was the same as yours, new one is 06 plate :)

p.s - mmi update might be worth thinking about. but its one of those things. if it aint broke, dont fix it!

guv.c,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I did the aircon gas last year and the MMI was updated in 2007 and like you say it works so will not mess with it :)

The other items you mention I have not done already so will put them on my list of "to do's" with the car this summmer.

I was mostly worried about the gearbox however it is running very smoothly at the moment so will leave it alone for the time being.

thanks again.

Hi another newbie here [on A8 anyway -Had A6 since 98]
Hoping to purchase A8 3.7 [with LPG conversion -the only way we could afford to run one of these beasts!!]

Whats MMI?

Thank you

Ray

Hi Ray,
MMI stands for "multi media interface" and in the A8 if you have this then you will know because it will mean you have a round dial on the centre console, and a screen on the dashboard where you can see all your media devices in the car uch as satnav, tv, and other features.

Often there are software updates issued by Audi that add or enhance the features available and therefore it is sometimes worth getting the update done.

Hope at helps.

Hope you enjoy your A8 as much as I have done so far. I would say the trick to trouble free motoring in these cars is to maintain the service schedule and use good quality parts including the oil.
