Hello
I have a 2005 Audi A3 2 litre diesel 3 door. SE version
When I open lock/unlock the car with the buttons on the key ( remote locking/unlocking) , the lights blink once when I unlock it and twice when I lock it ( or the other way around ! )
Does anyone know if there is a way to also make teh car make an audible tone when I lock/unlock the car

Apparently you can do it with VAG/VCDS.

It's the computer diagnostic software that the dealers use. They plug in their laptop computer to your car so that they can diagnose faults and configure items such as this with the diagnostic software.
I've never heard an Audi make an audible tone, so that's an interesting one if it can! Unless you can get kitted up yourself, you should ask an Audi dealer, or independent specialist (someone with the diagnostic equipment) whether they can do it for you. If there isn't an independent Audi specialist near to where you live, you can also try a Volkswagen/Seat/Skoda specialist as the diagnostic equipment is the same I believe.
Or, another forum member may be able to help you out: http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=264
Hope this helps.

You can make it bleep on locking, bleep on unlocking, or both using the software described.
A dealer will charge you a minimum £50 for the priviledge !
Whereabouts are you located as many people have VCDS and if there is one in your area I'm sure they will help.
Edit :- by the way it takes about 5 minutes to do the mod !

I believe it is now 'illegal' for a noise to be emitted.
The same goes for arming and disarming alarms.
(Noise annoyance - from the EU I expect)

That's one I haven't heard of !
If that's the case then 90% of cars on the road are illegal !
How is a 'silent' car alarm supposed to work ? I know people don't take much notice of them but that's taking things too far surely?

Hi
I don't think I worded my reply accurately!!
I was referring to the 'beep' when you arm or disarm the alarm.
(not the actual sounding of the alarm if the car was being tampered with).
I recently had a problem with an alarm on another vehicle and the supplier of the alarm told me that alarms are not allowed to 'beep' on arming and disarming.
I am assuming that the same would apply therefore to 'locking' and 'unlocking' the car car doors using the remote.
Hope this is a bit clearer and soory for any confusion!!

I did realise what you mean't but my point is how can a quick 'bleep' be illegal but a car alarm for 10 minutes isn't?
Frankly it does not make any sense and unless and until someone can show me the actual EU directive ( I have searched today and can find no trace) then I'm sorry but I don't believe it !!
I'm certainly not going to pay attention to it !! lol

Yes, definately an EU Directive exists.
Have a look here:
European Directive 95/56/EC (http://certification.mira.co.uk/menu/95_56_EC.htm)
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:31995L0056:EN:HTML
4.9.2. If an indication of short-term 'dynamic' processes such as changes from 'set' to 'unset' and vice versa is provided, it shall be optical, according to item 4.9.1. Such optical indication may also be produced by the simultaneous operation of direction indicators and/or passenger compartment lamp(s), provided that the duration of the optical indication by direction indicators does not exceed 3 seconds.

I also didn't pay any attention to it either........see you in court!! lol

Thanks for the info mate !
I did actually have a look at those links (sad, I know !) and whilst it does say exactly what you have reproduced it does not say specifically that the setting/unsetting notification shall NOT be audible ! Therefore I think it is a matter of interpretation. For it to be classed as 'illegal' it would need to state specifically that it must not be audible.
I presume that if it is indeed anything to bother about then it will be part of the MOT regulations and subject to testing as usual.
Until then, in a nutshell, '********' to it ! lol

:biglaugh: Well I never, there's a rule for everything it seems. Thanks for the info mate, there's something to throw into a trivia conversation! :p
What I wonder is how on earth you managed to find out about this in the first place?! It seems so strange that someone would make a rule about how long the indicators should flash. lol

Not strange at all buddy - we all signed up to the eu ( or enough of us did ! ) to vote these parasites into office and pay them extortionate amounts of salary and expenses to dream up bloody nonsense and un-enforceable crap like this !
Best thing we can all do is ignore it !!
Edit : and I guarantee that there is no copper in the land would a) have a clue about it and b) remember what to do about it if they fell over it ! And that is NOT denegrating policemen in any way at all - purely making the point that they have much more important things to remember and deal with.!
