:beerchug:Hi I am from the Golf forum but something is bugging me about Audi A3's !
I see lots of them on my motorway commute and have noticed that they seem to have different style rear lights ? there seems no correlation between year and model type. Can someone tell me why some have small square lights at the rear and some have wider lights extending into the rear tailgate ? sorry for being so sad !

Iirc the 3 door has smaller lights and the sportback has the lights that merge into the tailgate. I think thats the correct description but someone with an A3 will hopefully confirm that :)

the hatchback (3 door) has similar sized lights to the golf. Whereas the sportback (5-dr) and cabriolet have the larger ones as you describe but are LED. The ones on the hatchback are 'optic'. Its because the sportback is a larger car, they only put these new lights on as a facelift and not as a next gen.

Now the A4 and A5 and A6 (not the new 2011 generation) have the same rear LED.

However the new A3 will have updated rear lights. Similar to those seen on the A1 or Q5. Hope this helps?
