Is there much difference in what coolant to use.

I'll be completely draining and flushing my cooling system and wondering what to put back into it. I know that the + or ++ is more compatible with other coolants but does it have any additonal corrosive protection or am I fine with the G12.

AFAIK G12 is in it at the moment.

Also is it a must to use distilled water and what mi would you recommend I'm thinking 50:50 which should mean I'm good to -25,

When I bought coolant from Audi a few months ago, they gave me G12++. I don't know what the difference is between the 3 but they may be a different colour.

I don't know what was changed between G12, G12+ and G12++. they probably added leak fix due to the chocolate cooling systems VW have used for over a decade .

I know it's based on one of BASF Glysantin additives, so the definitive answer may lie with BASF.
BASF G30 = VW G12 (pinky red)
BASF G30-91 E = VW G12+ & G12++ (lilac)

No need to use distilled water, ElsaWin says tap water. Wont hurt if you did want to use distilled water though.
