You will have to fit switch 6Q0 941 531 C 20H and as far as I can remember the wiring is present from the switch to the central electrics unit and also present up to a 6 pin connector in the plenum chamber at pin 1, it is the red plug G in the diagram. At this pin you will find a white/yellow wire and you will have to run wiring from here to the fog light, doing this exactly as the factory intended is not simple and requires special terminals and crimping tools plus wire (available from Autosparks) and the connectors to the back of the fog lights. You will also have to add a 15 amp fuse to position 44.

Yes it is but how are you going to get the wire through into the engine bay?

i automatically thought there would be grommets or openings in the bulk head, but by the sound of things its not that straight forward. Saying that i think it would be more neater coming from the connector and it would be fuse protected. Time for the haynes manual to come out to remove the wiper linkage i think, thanking you again for your help and advice, regards barry

managed to remove wiper assy, found the connector in question, but no wire coming from pin 1, just a thin paper like cover which i punctured with a test light. But when attempting to put fuse in position 44 i found no wire/pins/terminals to hold fuse, as if not wired for this position, any ideas ??

for anyone wanting to retrofit fog lights to a 2003 9n chassis polo, please be aware the wiring on my vehicle, polo s (this may diferent on other models) did not exist from the headlight switch. You need to purchase a lead from your local vag dealer, part number 000979133E around about £3.00 and fit this into the headlight switch housing, then hard wire it through the bulk head via hole and grommet, and to the fog lights via inline fuse and possible relay, the only difference compared to original fit foglights is you will not have a warning light on your dash to remind you of fog lights on, this of course can easily be rectified with a light in one of the spare blank covers in the dash.

i would never dispute someone with your experience, but am i right in thinking this is just a wiring loom? where would i connect it to for a pick up for power for the headlight switch.

On a 9N the wiring should be present from the headlight switch plug at socket 8 as a white/yellow and from there down to fuse 44. From here the new harness plugs into the fuse box and runs to the headlight, November 2006 onwards cars have the warning light built into the switch.

once again i respect your experience but there is no wire coming from pin terminal 8, this is where i have picked up the supply for the fog lights and have inserted new wire, regards barry and ps fuse will not fit in position 44, there is no nothing to hold it in place, no connections.

Adding the wire from the switch to position 44 is easy and I imagine the kit shown comes with it. To add the terminals, all you have to do is slide back the purple locking plate and the new terminal clips in.
