Just thought I show you this....my car has done 118K on the clock and can see the wear and tear of the Leather Gear Gaiter from the Passenger side view. Does anyone else have theirs worn out as bad as this? If so, after what Mileage or year.

Anyone who has replaced this, is it an easy job doing it yourself?

Cheers,
Rehman

Not sure but I think you have to wreck the knob to get the gaiter off, do a google for replacing gear knob on Golf, there is a good how 2 that should come up, think it's on a Golf forum rather than a VW one, hth.

It isn’t actually leather, they describe it as leatherette on the English parts system but I think the German is Kunstleder or Echt Leder, vinyl basically. The boot and knob come as a complete assembly. When you lift the gaiter up you will find a clip around the base of the gear lever, prise this open and the knob pulls off. When you put it back together you are supposed to use special pliers like the ones used for CV boots to squeeze the clip. There are a dozen or more different assemblies and they cost around £100.

Changed mine but fitted a Scirroco knob instead, fairly easy job

Do you have to separate the knob and gaiter for the Scirroco knob to fit, ie use the scirocco gaiter as well?

No, you have to use your Passat gaiter, the Scirroco is a different size and shape.

Here's mine fitted
