:aargh4:I have a broken offside front road spring and am well peed off about it. Have had this Passat about 3 years now and did not expect this to happen on a VW. My previous own car ( late vaux OmegaV6 2.6)had a broken spring, I heard it go ping when I got something from the back seat. Both my sons have Corsas, both have had broken springs. In the family we have previously had two Passat estates reaching megamiles (one went to 192k before selling it) and did not have this problem. People seem to blame speed bumps ( better named "foot to the floor then brake hard "bumps) but I think it is more likely crap steel because of this obsession with recycling every bit of scrap - or CRAP- metal that must turn out to be of low quality and probaly contaminated with god knows what!!!:aargh4:. Anyway , rant over, anyone else have a spring go ping on your B6 ??:(

Haven't heard of it before on a B6. Friends B5 snapped a spring couple weeks ago but at 7 years old u would expect it.

I've a full spare set of standard se springs of you want a replacement set!

It seems to be something that ails a lot of modern motors - I assume because they are heavier than their older counterparts; that and the fact that they seem to be harder sprung

My Golf 1.9 TDI Mk5 has had both front road springs go within the last year. I was a bit surprised they didn't replace both the first time.

Really odd this second one. Woke up on Thursday morning to the alarm going off. My wife reckoned she had heard a bump just before. On closer inspection the car had collapsed on the NS front. It had literally collapsed in the drive. Evidently the spring was already broken and had slipped out of the cup that holds it.

Good news - my extended warranty with Warranty Direct have paid up immediately settling direct with the garage.
