Hi Guys,
I have Passat Estate '07, need to replace my Dunlop SP Sport 01's, which I have been pleased with. Bought last ones for £111.00 in 2009.
Anyone be able to recommend an alternative option which is as good/better for a similar price WITH rim protectors. I understand Continental are good, but wondered if anyone has used anything else?
Price of tyres seem to have increased dramatically since they were last replaced.
Thanks.

Firstly I would suggest you try mytyres.co.uk or blackcircles.com or etyres.co.uk, to keep the tyre prices down. Driving into KwikFit is a very expensive option these days.
As for tyres I have had the Dunlops which I liked, and continentals which are great in the Summer and rain when it is warm...but really dangerous in the winter, as they really cannot cope with any ice or snow at all. Tehy are also pretty bad in the wet when it is cold as the compound really is a summer compound on the premium and sport contacts.
Having just taken off my winter tyres I have just put on some new nokian z g2 (215/55/16 w XL) and these cost about £112 each fitted from mytyres and are rated very highly by ADAC etc. So far they are impressive, but as I put them on yesterday I can't really comment that much.
Bridgestone ER300 are also highly rated, especially for teh passat.

Are they 16's or 17's, you can still get deals with the main centre's, you just need the right person to pick the phone up, I know it's 2-3 yrs ago, but KF did me 4 premium tyres for £300, 205/55/16's, so a deal is still on the cards, you have to start quoting internet prices and some will price match for you.

I have vredesteins on mine. Brilliant in the dry wet and not that bad on snow! Big let down is there quite loud.
Just replace the fronts today with kumhos. Jad them before and there am excellent tyre. Long lasting, grippy and eyed as the quietest tyre. I bought then from a local guy who was 5% cheaper than any price I could get online.

Didnt like my Dunlops, liked my Conti Sport Contacts, didn't like Pirrelli Rosso's, liked the Bridgestone Potenza, now on Michellin HP Primacy and must say they are very nice, quiet and smooth, good grip :)

A have 2 michelin pilot sport 2's on the front of mine atm, had them on my previous car and was impressed. I highly rate Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's. In 215/55/16 I would recomend the sporttrac3 pattern. Pirelli have an offer on at the moment that if you buy 2 tyres you can enter a competition to win tickets to the F1 (pirelli tyres are being used in f1 this year). Enduro are a decent budget brand, Kumho are the leading mid range tyre at the minute. Kumho KU31/39 are highly praised.
Hope this helps. I work for protyre (www.protyre.co.uk)so I'm relaying feedback I've got back from customers.
(i am NOT on any form of commission lol)

I swear by Goodyear Excellence.
Decent wear and stick like **** on a cotton blanket :wiggle:
Also try tyre traders on the web for a quote

Damaged my NS rear bridgestone ER300 yesterday on a kerb, created a huge bulge. I was getting near replacement as been on since new, now 50K. Front Vrederstien Ultracs not far off too after 22k.
Had previously decided to go and get Kumho KU31 Ecsta sport at my next change after some good reports. Anyway just had 4 fitted at home for £325.00 by Event Tyres. Very professional job.

About a month ago i had two Avon ZV5 215 55 16. W rated fitted to my passat and 2 to my dads got one bill for the four and all four Nitrogen filled the bill came to £315 i used Lodge tyre
Birmingham, Walsall, Telford, Coventry, Alsager, Talke, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton
i had the first two Avons last march and after 14500miles they have only lost 1.5mm running on the front. good grip in wet and on wet grass. not used them on snow. i have winters for the front November to March.
the Avons seem quieter than the factory fitted Dunlops, also worth noting i had the rear alignment done at 13,000 as i had spotted slight wear on the inner edge of the rears. but since then even wear.
