Hi All
I have recently bought a Dension gateway lite with the hope of connecting my iphone to standard concert 2 headunit (single cd player, iso connectors)in my A4 Avant 1.8t ('56').
Dension unit connects into cd changer port (I don't have a changer already).
Tried fitting today - which was straightforward (or so I thought) - however when connected head unit does not see / recognise dension (supposed to see it as cd changer, but display shows 'no cdc').
Iphone is charging when connected (black earth wire has been connected to earth).
Has anyone else installed one of these or had this issue, or have any idea what the problem might be?
Should also mention - buttons on left hand side of my head unit seem to operate the function one clockwise from the correct one - example, pressing fm picks cd, cd eject is fm, etc, etc (or something like that - have done this since I bought the car in October 2010) - but can still operate it. Don't suppose there is an easy fix for this?
Thanks
John.

Hi Ya
I have a concert ll also, Check the earth again, i had a similar problem with my ipod connector its the other make, although in my case i dont have a cd changer as my connector goes into the back of the head unit unit, had similar display problems initially though.
dunno if that'll help

Thanks blackgrill
I've tried various positions for the earth but still nothing (currently earthed to hu).
The iphone is charging though (and stops charging when I remove the black wire connection).
Fitting Dension is pretty much identical to xcarlink as per linked guide - so struggling to find what's up unless its a faulty / incorrect unit.
Only other thing I can think is I looked at what wires went into the hu from the connector and it looks like there are various pins relating to cdc which dont get a wire from the new Dension connector (judging by the connector diagram on the hu).
These include 'CD-GND' and what looks like a switched live sign?
Any idea which pins are and arent required for operation?
Thanks again.

I have the connect 2 system, it had a blue plug that connected into the CD-C port (had to be the correct one as there was nothing else plugged in there).
I had a blue connector this went directly into the rear of the HU
Then there was the (control)box from this cable.
Next cable was a round din type connector this fits into the control unit(connect 2) made sure it went all the way as it didn't feel like it would go any further, so made sure it was seated well.
From this was the ipod connection plug ( i have the 5th Gen).
Extra to this was a black earth lead (earthed this to metal chassis which can be seen better with the glove box and HU completely removed.
Scraped some of the black paint off then screwed to this.
Unit didn't initially do anything the display showed the no cd-c error - so re-did earth then tried again.
Pressed cd 6 and selected a playlist then scanned couple of times for track, it now works.
Only thing i noticed is that the ipod does not switch off with the ignition off, looked at 'destructions' but it says nothing about that.
Pressing other cd buttons 1-6 sometimes you get the same playlist not sure why - never able to find the playlist i want as the ipod is velcro'ed in the glove box so have to take it out to select exact album etc (gotta be better than looking for cd's though)
Connect 2 was purchased from Bass Junkies for about 47 quid
There are couple of different types - dependent on your car

Hi Ya,
No mention of fault finding on the dension website but here is a link to the install guide: for the Dension Gateway lite
http://www.dension.com/downloads?field_file_product_nid=20&field_file_category_value_many_to_one=Install+guid e
You should be able to download the PDF doc
It does mention:
Note: There may be a free black wire on the
Dension wiring harness. This must be
connected to the vehicle Ground for safe
operation
Found this after googlematic kicked in:

I would give the UK office a call on Monday. They are usually very helpfull.
I bought the gateway 100 but had a problem with it working with older ipods but when modern ones were connected the unit seemed to freeze and wouldnt work. They ended up sending me a free upgrade to the 300 model which worked fine.
Have you tried connecting it without an ipod connected?

thanks for that - I think I'll try earthing to hu cage bolt as in the guide as a last attempt.

sounds like a good response from dension.
I've left a note of problem on their 'ticket' system online, and have also contacted seller (incarmusic) who were very helpful. They spoke to Dension right away and called me back with a couple of options to try - no luck still.
I've to give them a call back Monday to let them know how I'm getting on - if no joy they said they would send out replacements.
Thanks again for your help.
