Bought a 53 A4 avant 2.5 TDi Quattro Sport a couple of years ago and love it. Due to a change of job and good fortune have just ordered a new A4 Avant 3.0 Quattro Black Edition with S-Tronic, Leather, High Tech, Pan roof etc. Really deliberated over the colour but finally settle on Phantom Black (following the salesman, my wife, ALL my friends advice). Looking forward to .....june to get it. Found the following link on Audi.com website saying you can collect car from Ingolstadt, but dealer apologised saying "not available for UK buyers unless your buying an R8. Anyone else heard of this???? Link is:http://www.audi.com/com/brand/en/models/car_delivery/ingolstadt.html

Yes, that's what I've read on this and/or other forums :(

It's the choice of champions :beerchug:

Lava Grey and Phantom Black are possibly the best colours to opt for when matched with the black optic pack.

Phantom Black is superb on the avant and when clean the car looks really well but it does dirty up very quickly in the winter :(

What wheels did you spec- the standard titanium finish rotor design or did you go for different ones?

Enjoy! :beerchug:

I think its horses for courses really. I personally chose the Brilliant Black over the Phantom black..simply because I preferred the cleaner-black and wet look of it. Phantom black looks great, don't get me wrong..but I think its down to personal taste. I was also incredibly tempted to get it in white!...

Yeah white was tempting too as was the brilliant red which looks great on de-chromed cars. But saw a black edition in PB on web and it sold itself to me

Well I'm still undecided on the colour ... I straight away thought of Phantom Black but this is a company car and I could get flat black and use the money to get the tech pack as I so miss not specing sat nav on my current s-line.

So is their a big differance between Phanton or standard Black ... at the moment everytime I see a black car I'm trying to guess if its standard black or metalic/pearlecent etc ?

Yes there is a noticeable difference. Brilliant black is exactly that- pure black and glossy. Whatever angle you look at it, its clean wet-look black..(and shiney).

Phantom black, there is a layer of silver underneath and its a metallic styling, so when you look its not just black but this glittery silvery shine too. If you saw them side by side you'd easily tell them apart. There is one thing they do have in common though..neither stay clean for long! Less than 1 week of driving and my car already looks filthy grey...;). Now wheres that wash bucket...

thanks for that .. interesting your saying Brilliant Black is shinnier than Phantom Black. Would you say this link is Phantom or Brilliant ?

Going by that picture, I'd say thats Phantom black. It's a bit difficult to tell when its so reflective, but I'm pretty confident.

Heres mine, Brilliant black:

I'd recommend ordering "brake dust grey" wheels :p

Agreed, the dark titanium 5 spokes look quite menacing on an all black car.

I've also decided to go with the s-line suspension, the extra 10mm will make all the differance .

I have the sports suspension, rather then the s-line suspension and to me that looks just right, of course it's a personal choice. If you're going for the 30mm drop, I'd strongly recommend the adaptive suspension option, if the following apply

You have any form of bad back
You Regularly drive on roads with speed humps
You don't want to explain to every passenger that "it's meant to be a firm ride"

OK, so I say that with "half a smiley", but I wish someone had recommended it to me with just my 20mm drop.

I didn't think I liked that design of wheels before, but seeing it them on a 'real life' photo they look good and not too dark a grey.

Do you only get privacy glass on the avant then, or is it a really light tint?

Good choice on the Black Edition, well worth the extra cash.

I've got those alloys as well, and they have really grown on me. Didn't like them at first but now I've got used to them they aren't too bad. Colour means you don't need to clean them as often!

Unfortunately privacy glass only with the Avant and not even available as an option.

I might consider aftermarket tints.

Ask the dealer. I had ordered tints originally, and the dealer said they couldnt do it..but had local contacts that could. They charged me for it on the official invoice, but had a third party company come in to do it...all before I picked up the car. Worth doing!

Be cqreful if you have B&O and then after market tint. Many people have suffered issues seemingly to do with the water getting to the amps.

Thanks for that, B&O is speced ... I will need to think about tints carefully.

I have both privacy glass & the 30mm drop - love both.

I don't find the suspension too firm that I have to explain it to passengers but I love the sharp handling and I think it makes the car "sit" better - a personal view certainly but I'm delighted and I don't have adaptive suspension.

Privacy glass is great when my kids leave iPods, bags, laptops, whatever else lying around in the back seat in full view and I don't notice. I also like the look.

I had tints retrofitted to my previous car - a word of warning, make sure you don't scrape anything against them or the tint will start to peel off! A couple of scrapes and it looks pretty scabby really, so take care.

My complaint about the firmness isn't about the ride in general, only when going over speed humps and potholes, I do like the handling of mine.

What tyres do you have? I ask because while driving with the spacesaver fitted last week due to a puncture, I noticed it was a lot less harsh over speedhumps, (of course the handling in general could hardly be said to be improved) I'm beginning to think the 245/40R18 (at 45psi once warmed up) are a large contributing factor ...

I'm on contis having had bridgestones as OEM (great in dry, ok wet, rubbish in snow) and Dunlops (worn out after 6k miles!!!) previously. Contis are the best so far in all round use.

45 psi seems hard (to me), I run 40 and noticed the difference in the ride after running the car at 34 when I first got it.

Personal choice isn't it - i don't fancy buying a set of space savers and running it on them!!! :biglaugh:

Well my last three cars have ended up on Contis, so that's fairly likely for me too, not expecting P7's to last too long, though something over your 6k would be good!

Cold my fronts are 41, I was surprised that after only 2 miles the pressure had risen to 45, I noticed it after the puncture had been repaired, and the front end still felt "wallowy", I hadn't checked what pressure the tyre place put back in it, pulled over into a lay-by and checked them, turned out to to be 32, next stop Sainsbury's to top that up sharpish!

Supplied with 34? The book pressure is 42 or 44 with load isn't it?
