I'm always one to 'fill-up', never put £20 in or whatever.

However, 3 months ago the pump clicked off, so I assumed it was full, but when I drove away it was only 3/4 full, which was strange put didn't think too much of it.

2 months ago the problem is worse, I'm trying to fill the car up with diesel and it keeps coming up to the top, and then gurgling down.

Today, I have spent ages brimming the tank, and finally got to the point diesel is visible on the filler neck, and yet the gauge is only past half

The read out to full was only showing 400 miles, it should read nearly 700 when full. I moved the car, and opened the filler again just to check it hadn't gurgled down again, but it hadn't, diesel still visible, so the car was definitely brimmed.

So, my car is now very difficult to fill up, and the gauge doesn't seem to read properly.

Any ideas what's going on here anyone?

The fact that the dash won't read full suggests the sender is not working properly. It's in the fuel tank. Mine has always been hard to completely fill.

That is normally the sender, or it could be your clocks are playing up.

I thought that too, but why has it become a bitch to fill up?

After the past 3 fill-ups being a bit of a bind I have finally been able to fill up the tank on my Passat.

The last was the worst, it took me ages to get the diesel in, until eventually it looked full (fuel brimmed to the filler neck).

The gauge however reported just over half a tank. The low fuel warning came on 200 miles too early.

However, it seems back to normal now. Fast fill-up, gauge reads full, and 600+ range reported.

It must have had indigestion.

It must have had indigestion.

It just could not BELIEVE the rise in cost of fuel of late! :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:
