My Passat has been drinking alot of diesel, in the past few months. I took it to the garage and they told me that I need to replace the Lambda Sensor, as this is causing the problem. In the morning, I always get a EML sign, and Emission garage! on the dash.

Could it be something else?

There is a slight misfire on 1st and 2nd gear, just below 2000rpm only for a few seconds. ECP are pricing their sensor for £116 :(

Is there any websites, that sell them cheaper? I looked on ebay but they are going for the same price :(

Zeb, do diesels have a Lambda sensor, could be wrong but thought that was only on the petrol models.

I had the same problem with mine shortly before the injectors failed

What year and engine is it?

Tbh I'm not too sure, all I was told that the Lambda Sensor is causing the problem. :(

Year: 2005

Engine: 2.0 TDI - BKP engine code

If you know someone or know of a local indy VW garage, or even your local dealer I would get them to diagnose the problem with VCDS. This will give them a fault code as to why the lights are on the dash. I would do this sooner rather than later as if it is the injectors when the completly fail the engine just shuts down and will not re-start. I speak from experience. Happend to me in the outside lane of the M57

Sorry to be a profit of doom lol !

There again it could be something simple !!

I will do that :)

I do have the diagnostic kit, so I just delete it whenever it comes up. The code is usually 17519? I will check tomorrow to see what code it is.

Ok, first job, replace the coolant sensor, GSF is always cheaper, and what are your mpg figures?

17519 P1111 Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Regulation Bank 1, System too Lean

Yes the 2.0 diesel does have a lambda sensor. You will have to replace it to see if it helps.
DSG4ME..B6 doesn't have problems with coolant temp sensor because it is self aware. It will flag a code if the coolant sensor is out of spec. Not like on the old models.

The code is 17519. I will look into this, and find out where I can the sensor slightly cheaper.
I filled her up by 7 litres last night, I drove 6.7 miles and was getting 30.6 mpg in the city. On the motorway I was getting around 40.6mpg. Diesel miles showed 145 miles/distance I can travel, the needle was on the 1/4 mark. Within those miles the distance/miles went lower and was showing 120! The needle dropped by another 1/4 of diesel.

This just doesn't seem right, plus the slight misfire which only happens in 1st and 2nd gear.

The only reliable way is to check mpg from a ful tank to tank (even part top up) but 7 litres here and there wont really give you a reliable indication - what does it normally show on the mfd?

could it be MAF or EGR related stuff?

Yeah your right! In the city the mpg shows 33.6 - 35.5, and in the motorway it's 45.8 - 48.8mpg.

If it was the EGR then the car will cough out alot of black smoke, the maf has been replaced by the previous owner.
