After this Winter, my manufacturered front and rear parking sensors have not been working 95% of the time and just constantly beep when I put it in reverse.

Very Occasionally they work and no constant beep and work as intended.

I used to get the constant beep when it used to rain and theres a fault with the sensors when moisture gets in them but when they would dry out or weather get dryer, they would start working again. But its been like this for over a month now.

Any ideas on cost of getting a indy specialist to fix these, ie if they have to replace some sensor, how much it is for an individual sensor and how big a job it is? will vagcom or VCDS tell which specific sensor is to blame?

Any help, be much appreciated. Its a cost I could do without but I have got used to the sensors and the back of the 'sat I cant even see where it ends, so I know its gonna to end in a bump if i dont get it fixed.
Not sure if to wait till proper summer dry weather kicks in before getting it done as might sort itself out providing we have some summer months!

Have you tried cleaning the sensor faces. When they get dirty they do not work very well.

The parking sensors do have diagnostic function and if one is faulty it should be recorded

One of the sensors is faulty or going faulty. You will need a diagnostic tool, VCDS etc, to tell which.

They don't always log a fault code. You will have to check the measuring blocks to see what distances they are registering and what their oscilation time is.

Wet wipes is your friend, try cleaning with them first and if no joy clean the contacts up behind the bumper, assuming it's not a sealed loom.

is there a "how to" to do this? or a step guide? dont want to ruin anything more than it is

I assume you mean the wiring rather than the cleaning? get under the rear bumper and you should see the wires, if they are individual with a plug to each from the loom try disconnecting each one, give it a wipe and check there's no water inside, don't just tug them off though, they probably need a clip pressed in to remove, a how 2 I've not seen, google VW parking sensors removal and you might get a result.

i had a look under the car and there is no way to get to the parking sensors without taking off the bumper entirely :-/ is there an easier way. they work now and again and what ive noticed is that they work the other way, where i get a constant beep initially and when backing up closer to a car it beeps on and off meaning stop and its close enough!

Had the same problem. Bought a sensor off ebay for £20 then once you undo the star bolts and unclip the bottom of the bumper you can get your hand up. Prepare to lose some skin but it felt better than the £70 for the sensor and 1.5 hours labour VW quoted me!!

Finally got round to book the car into the vw specialist I always use. He hooked it up to vcds and there was no errors reported, it saying its working correctly and he mentioned on vcds theres a way to try the individual sensor and all seemed to be working!

So still causing a problem, he does know a mate who works for vw dealer, he rang him and this chap said there is lots of s/w updates also could be faulty wiring.

Looks like a dealer fix job, but Im not going to pay there prices so I'll just live without, thank god its got a button to switch them off for when its constantly beeping.

Mine also has this intermittent fault, I've just got the car so have a 6 month Autotrust Dealer Warranty. I'll give them a call to see if their service is as shiny as their brochure!

I have a 55 SE TDi with rear -and front!- parking sensors.

I gotta say, it is the fronts that play up most, but then they are headfirst into the vagaries of all the recent wet weather, and have driven me bonkers this week.

As soon as I select reverse or switch the sensors on, the front sounds a mix of constant and on/off tones.

I've seen on here before that rewiring them can stop the fault - has anyone had a visual inspection and/or rewire ?

I might just approach my VW dealer, and see what cost is involved / likely cause.

I can live without them but front / rear combined are handy when parking. Will try cleaning them first.
Would not the breeze / engine fan dry out the front ones ?!

damage chrome paint was causing constant beep on my car so after removing chrome and cleaning no more beep- just look a bit ugly but I can live with that :approve:

I did the same, but have a issue with the car saying the is a problem, although I see it work perfectly before the fauld comes up.
Can it be CP (Component protection) that causes the issue ?
