I went to a few car auctions last year in Chelmsford. They are quite interesting to say the least...and prices of the cars can fluctuate all over the place. What sort of money are you looking to spend? only thing to watch out for is they literally are "sold as seen" and you don't really get any kind of warranty per-se from the seller. E.g. If you buy it and the gearbox explodes as you drive out you've got no real comeback. As its coming round to go to the ramp, see if you can flip the bonnet. Also see if you can look inside for any fault lights on the dash. Classics to go wrong I noticed are things like blown headgasget, clogged DPF and knackered gearboxes/clutches (I have no idea on the age of the ones you are looking at).

That said you can also get fantastic bargains there, its just a lot more risky than private buying. If you can get one thats still under manufacturers warranty I guess your laughing though..and I'd like to think if its ex-fleet then it will have been correctly serviced and looked after.

Hope thats some use

Why take a risk when you don't have to?

I've got my FSH, 49K miles, 55 plate, Quartz Grey, A4 2.0Tfsi S-line Quattro for sale in here at £8750. For full details see For Sale section: Audi A4 2.0TFSI S-line Quattro, 6 months Audi Warranty.
It is in immaculate condition and comes with a full Audi Warranty till August. If there's a better example I've yet to see it.

You can PM if interested.

Just last week a friend of mine bought a car from Auction. a BMW 320d.

Ran fine through the auction with no noises or anything, the second it left the auction house and his foot was down on the floor the blue smoke pillowed out. . . turns out turbos gone!
