Hi all
I had ordered a replacement K&N air filter element (cone shape) as tbh I normally replace the factory air filter with a K&N with any other car I have owned (sure it saves money in the long run). I was just wondering whether this is something you guys do or don't do?
Cheers

The B8 apparently breaths pretty good on it's own and hence the benefits not there.
Additionally over the years of Audi ownership I've heard of so many people contaminating their MAF due to oiled filters that I've choosen to steer clear.

I put a K and N air filter on my 1.9TDi. Not sure if really and truely there was any noticeable difference, but the filter seemed a much better design. Main problem for me was I could never be bothered to clean them..so just end up replacing them every year or two anyway (they get really really gunked up).
Doubt I'll bother with it on the next car, if like Scotty says they breath better. I might have to pull open the air filter when I get it now to take a look :P

Thanks guys, yeah I have been in two minds so may keep it in the box for the time being, last thing I want is to cause problems where there isn't at the moment.

I've modded a lot of cars over the years and the first thing was always a K&N, latterly the typhoon filter. However, with improved technology and better equipment, i think the Audi system is pretty damn good standard. And as has been said, i have also read various stories of MAF's getting oiled up and audi staying well clear come warranty time as they know fine what has caused it!!!!

Replacement & 'cone shaped'? I got a replacement K&N filter (bargain price at Euro Car Parts) which is a panel filter. Unsure on noticeable difference in performance but it sure works more efficient as there is a noticeable increase in the induction noise.
As far as the box is concerned, I read that the design is very efficient and I wouldn't want to change to any other 'warm air induction kit'.
I was also amazed to see the stock filter having a piece of additional material at the bottom in addition to a restrictive paper filter.
