What's your average speed?

Found out something I'd rather not know when flicking through the functions on my Golf's computer.

It has taken me 22 hours to do the last 595 miles!

An average speed of 27 mph!

Is this just a tale of driving today? I am no boy racer but I'm not a granny either.

My long term average speed (over about the last year) was 31mph.

I reset it the other day, and managed an average of 50mph for the 620 miles from my house to Eurodisney and back.

Mine is quite poor, overall average of 16.9mph, and moving of 22.9, obviously my top speed never goes above 70mph :Blush2:

I try to avoid too many short journeys which really knock your average speed and I am semi retired and can do most of my work from home.

I guess it shows how much time we spend in traffic jams of one sort or another.

Its not so much short journeys for me, just Surrey/West London traffic. I find people cant drive in the rain/snow, and theres plenty of roadworks.

This week ive been setting off at 5:30 and not getting in until 8/8:30 pm. This week, ive seen 4 accidents on the way home, every time it rains some muppet crashes his car.

Some people shouldnt be allowed to drive. The upshot is, that plus roadworks, very poor averages. Frustrating, but nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

Eitherway it keeps Mr Camerons pockets lined with gold. Perhaps its all a conspiracy!

Although saying that, yesterday some tool in a people carrier wouldnt let me take my exit at a roundabout, and proceeded to block me from my exit. (I was almost forced to go all the way around the roundabout, again down to poor lane discipline, people in the wrong lane at the 3 lane entry to the roundabout, forced me to join the road in the middle lane from the junction). Lots of selfish drivers in London, makes it a very dangerous place to drive.

Totally agree with SammoVWT - London traffic plays hell with average speed and mpg figures; just checked mine, and its 14mph.

Im sure My Golf's never used to work.
I did a test once, from Whitby to Huddersfield, all the way its 60mph+ roads apart from Pickering which your in and out again in about 2 mins

mine came back at 24mph....
