Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether 26mpg avg is acceptable? The engine is only on about 1k miles so I appreciate a tighter engine but my driving is mixed e.g 5 miles urban and 8 miles dual carriage on normal speeds.
I didn't expect book claims of c. 44mpg but below 30mpg is appalling for a modern car!!!
Help!

Hi,
I think thats actually about right. If you have a browse around, there are quite a few guys on here that have 2.0T A4's. Not to steal his thunder, but if ScottyUK is around..Im fairly sure he has one and his signature says around the same mark. You'll lose some MPG because you've got the 4WD one too.

Looking at the brochure, yes I'm that sad! States: 36.2 mpg combined, 29.4 MPG urban, 42.2 MPG extra urban. Your driving is closer to urban than combined so I think that isn't bad for a car with only 1000 miles on the clock.
Should have added, quattro obviously hits fuel economy so does auto (although not for urban) and remember on a big proportion of your drive you engine wont have reached operating temperature.
If you can try a longer run at around 50-60 MPH to see what you get.

My mpg isn't at all good due to not many long runs .... and although it's 18 months old it's probably not fully run in with less than 7k miles on it!
Click on the mpg in my sig an you can see the variations in mpg on different refills.
p.s. I get 30 etc on runs and even though my average is low, it's 20% better than my S4 ! ;)

Thanks for the comments guys,
Although not great news, at least there doesn't seem to be anything wrong then...
Must look at an ECU flash for improved economy...oh and the extra power to fix the flat spot on auto kick-down near redline.

I have a 2.0 TFSi quattro manual.
On my daily 25 mile commute (various roads) i get between 28-32mpg, depending on my right foot!
The best i saw was on a gentle trip around the highlands stuck in traffic at 50 odd mph- managed 44 mpg!!
However, once the traffic cleared and the road opened up, that figure plummetted into the mid 20's..........:o

That sounds typical from what I've seen around these parts.
Not great considering around 22mpg is typical for the 3.0t though?

Is that 26 on the DIS or 26 having worked out what you're getting from a Tank? My 2.0 TFSI has covered 46k and i average about 26mpg which says 33ish on average on the DIS, thats normal driving mpst i have ever got is 37mpg (in real money), which averaged 45 on the DIS.

...on the DIS and the mpg have crept up to 29-30 on normal routes after a couple of long runs!
Accuracy is definatley questionable but the lies makes me feel happier nevertheless!
I guess if I wanted economy I would have chosen a diesel but the initial shock was compared to my type-r civic on fast driving at 8k revs all day long doing 30s

Well 30ish on the DIS is at least going to give you 26 odd in real terms, do what i do and pretend the DIS is accurate that way its not as painful lol!

I've given up checking my fuel consumption - it's too depressing.
Seems AUDI don't do fuel economy - plenty of threads about poor ecomony from the other engines in the range.

TBH, i din't buy mine for fuel consumption!! If i was that worried, i would have bought a 2.0 TDi (a decent car, but niot for me!!!!). Having owned Type-R's, EVO 8 and 9 and an STi PPP, i think the audi mpg is wonderful!!!!!:biglaugh:

I should lend you my 1.9TDi 2004 A4. It runs on fresh air...I spend more a month on tea bags than I do on diesel for it.

My 2.0T M8 Avant shows 31.3 mpg over 70,000miles at an average of 51MPH.
If I am stuck in 70MPH traffic I can get 36.6 on my 84mile commute. How you could get 42MPG I don't know.
