I've just got my car back from the dealer, aside from having a few electrical problems fxed it has had a new Battery, new wheel bearing, new clutch and dual mass flywheel !

Thankfully all under warranty, and the car is a lot smoother, although I can now hear another bearing making a noise, this time at the rear. The clutch is fine now but I'm still having trouble with 1st gear. It will have to go back to them.

I'm pretty shocked at the amount of work I've had done on this car considering it is less than 3 years old and has only done 39k miles. I kind of expected Audis to be of very high quality with excellent engineering.

Of course any car can give problems but surely wheel bearings and clutches should be good for a lot longer than 39k miles ?

it could be a tyre making the noise, i would have thought the dealer would have spun all the wheels to make sure he was replacing the correct one, if the tyre is out of shape (fairly common) that will give a wheel bearing type noise

I had clutch and flywheel done on mine at 20k............. known fault I think.
Since then, now at 60k and its still perfect.
Noticed you are in Birmingham, do you use Bham Audi on the Stratford Road too?

Yeh I did think maybe the tyres were causing a problem altough they are only 4 months old. They are however nasty cheap budget tyres (fitted by an Audi dealer can you believe).

I have used the Birmingham dealer, also the Tamworth & Derby dealers, these three have been excellent.

Why are the clutch and flywheel being replaced ?

I do find with mine that it will sometimes give a "poor" gear change with a jerk when releasing the clutch. I did think it was maybe me having a bad moment on the pedal, but I do wonder if there is something else going on.

Apparently the dampened flywheel was badly worn and it was damaging the clutch plate and bearing.

Symptoms wise the pedal felt slightly 'gritty' as though there was friction at the side of it as you pressed.
Also I sometimes couldn't get it to go straight into frist gear at junctions, I would have to lift the clutch out fully and press it down again before 1st gear would engage.

Since having the new clutch the pedal is so mutch softer and smoother, although I still get the gear problems but only when the car is cold.

Mine was replaced due to a clutch judder and a notchy clutch pedal.

Never had gear engagement issues though.
