Hi Tom, have you tried gaining access from the wheel arch liner?
If you jack up the car and remove the wheel and I believe 3-4 torx headed screws you should be able to pull the wheel arch liner back. I suggest tie wrapping it to the strut with a few cable ties.
I found you can acces the rear of the light a lot easier. Without having to remove the light or bumper.

You might want to check with your dealer. I needed to change my side light and could not get it done. Tried through the wheel arch but could not get the cover of properly. Called the dealer and expected to pay megabucks but they changed the bulb for just the cost of the bulb £1.26. Pretty good.

That is a bargain price :beerchug:. But dead easy to do at home. Remove 3-4 torx head screws. Pull wheel trim liner away.Place hand under and feel for a small rubber cover in line with the sidelight. Pull rubber cover off. Pull out bulb and replace.
Apart from scratched wrists it was an easy job.

which bulb is it - H7 headlights?
I had to change both bulbs yesterday lunchtime and did it in about 5 minutes. I'd done it before so knew exactly what to expect - the drivers side one is easy with plenty of room, and the passenger side was more tricky, but somehow I managed to do it surprisingly easy, with no cut hands...
Maybe I was just lucky this time... but the passenger side bulb can cause problems because wires can get in the way. Yesterday I just managed to pull these to one side to allow the main bulb to seat well before twisting back in...
ps: if I could exchange bulb replacement for vagcom programming I'd do it, as that's next on my list ! ;)

I managed to get the headlights out when fitting my HIDs without removing the bumper but it was a really fiddly job. You have to take all the front grilles off. Two bolts on top of the light, one in behind the centre upper grill and one behind the front bumber, accessed through the fog light grill.

Hi G Black,
Are you still running Hids4U Ultimate kit? If so have found any better places to mount the ballasts?
Mine are still wedged between the washer bottle and headlight on the drivers. With the help of a little bit of sponge
On the passengers they are wedged between the air filter box and the side of the headlight unit. Again with the help of a little bit off sponge :Blush2:

I've had to change the HIDs bulbs a couple of times recently. It's even more off a pain to change! Especially a the bulb holders have been cut so they hardly fit any more.

Sorry rappy replied at the same time!
I think on both sides of the car there strapped onto the bumper supports, directly underneath the headlights. I've recently changed to a set of 4300k bulbs, but the cables are shorter than on the original 5000k bulbs for the ultimate kit. Still reaches but just about.

Mine is running on 6000k and I 'm more than happy. How come you changed down your kelvin rating?
How long did your bulbs last? Mine have lasted so far around 12,000 miles or just over a year.

I love the look off the 4300k. Was parked beside an r36 the other day and couldn't tell the difference! However, they don't light up the road just as well.
I replaced one off the 5000k bulbs under warranty as it turned a funny colour. Sent me a replacement out straight away.
I've been having problems with these new bulbs though. When I first got them one bulb wouldn't start when warm, so was able to change it. Now 2 months on it's doing it again. I'm starting to wonder if its the ballast, so I'll proably stick the 5000k back in for a while.

Seems very strange. Have you spoke to HIDS4U? I think there customer service is excellent!!! I'm sure they would want to help you and get it sorted. Also with a 2yr warranty you cant go wrong :approve:
I would try 6000k If it was me as these put out a great light. I dont think you would notice much difference in the colour just the light output.
I had seen a VW Tiguan with a factory fitted hid kit and these seemed the same colour as mine.

Great news Tom!!! You are a member of the hid club :approve:. A word of warning you may want to change them to lower kelivin rating. 8000k are a bit blue and I doubt it will pass the mot and you may attract the boys in blue.

How do you find the hid's compared to the standard lights?.

HID's have a wire connected to the bulb that connects to the ballast, standard lights don't have the attatched wire, easy to find!

Can any of you who are running HID's plaease give me some advice.
The bulb holder in my headlights is the bayonet type where you just push and twist.
I understand some of the older headlight housings have the clip to hold the bulbs in place. Which type do you guys have?
All healp would be appreciated as I am thinking of getting HID's but don't know if they will fit my type of buld holder.
Cheers
Anthony
