Space Saver - Alternatives?

I am looking to update from 2003 1.9TDi to circa 2009 2.0TDi but being put off by practicality of the space saver spare with a 50 mph limit - garages never seem to have right size in stock if/when replacement of main tyre needed but can order if you can return 3 hours to a day later.
Has anyone discovered a fully rated alternative that will fit in the wheelwell (even if it means jack & wheel brace stored in boot)?:1zhelp:

Just get another rim from ebay/dealers and put a tyre on it. It'll fit in the space under the boot floor
