View Full Version : Please Help Clutch is it near end of life?
Hello all my recent 04 a4 130 tdi clutch bites at the very top but does not slip at all. Fully depressed i feel a slight vibration. Is it at its end of life and will it slip soon or can it be other parts or will it last for ages? (not sure if it has had one in the past but has 155k on it).
Been quoted £370 to replace from an audi mechanic??

It could last for quite a while (if ya don't ride the clutch) or
collapse next week, hard to tell since its not slipping.
Its probably the original clutch.
The mechanic forgot to tell you about the DMF, which needs
to be replaced at the same time, that'll be another £300 please.

as you're paying the labour to strip the car/box down to replace the clutch, you may as well get the f/wheel done too - common sense really, especially if it's all original gear.
still thinking about getting this job done.Limited budget killing me. Doesnt slip just right at the top!
How many people have just changed the clutch, thrust bearing & plate etc and been happy???
as the audi mechanic states if there is no noise etc he wouldnt change it?He should know!!:1zhelp:
Just keep on trucking nobody can predict when she'll let go,but will probably slip when its getting near, however any mechanical metallic sounds get it done immediately, save up your pennies while you can its madness not ot do both clutch and flywheel.
cheers for that i understand but wouldnt you think the audi mechanic would push me that way?? He doesnt so will just a clutch etc get me back to normal running conditions? ie better lower pedal

Get the flywheel replaced at the same time.
My clutch had exactly the same symptoms as yours. I got it replaced and the garage recommended not replacing the flywheel.
Big mistake. The car didn't feel right afterwards - lots of juddering from the clutch.
In the end I had to replace the flywheel as well, but it ended up costing more because of the additional labour to take gearbox off again.
the labour cost is the same whether its clutch or clutch + flywheel. save up for a bit and get both done.

Get a few more quotes and opinions, from your potential spanner-men,
