Gear box

Passat 1.9 td on 55plate.
It has a HNV coded gear box in it, is thare any other box that may fit and not cause any problems?:confused:
My box started making noises and now oil spraying all under the car a i drive, or drips when parked.
I have been told that it may have a hole in it ? can not see any hole.:confused:
And would anyone tell me are the hard to get out?

Fairly easy to get box out. Quite alot of space once you get air box, battery etc out.
Comes out through wheel arch. A bit tight but easier if you lever the engine forward a bit.
You can't top up oil on the 1.9 so you must add the exact right amount when you refill it.

I got a hole in my old B6 gear box bit that was because the CV joint hadn't been refitted properly after a clutch change. It drained itself fairly quickly over the drive way.

Hello there g-black.thanks 4 your reply.
the cv's look fine to me, A VW dealer said that the box is gone.So i think i will have a go at getting the box out and having a look for a hole around the housing as there no signs any where else, except all over the engine (from exhaust mount\ and all the way under the car.
