Hmmm, well my A6 is due shortly for its MOT 28.03.11 so I called the dealership....YES....they're still doing the free MOT so thats all good!!
The advisory I got last time for the n/s/f and o/s/f anti roll bar bushes probably means they'll be due:( but been told they may be able to push that through ( fingers crossed )
The warranty's up around the same time so I'm getting them to do a full all round check of anything that needs done at the same time, prior to it running out....makes sense:approve:
The drivers window is playing up......dunno if anyone else has experienced this? It seems to go down ok but has problems going back up...its very intermittent!!
That should be covered under warranty and I'm hoping it sails thru, but we'll see.....I'll post it up anyways:beerchug:
Oh yeah - Insurance is due 25th May too:(
Good news is I've checked it out and looks to be £263.89 fully comp with 10yrs NCB protected so not too bad:approve:
Once thats done it'll be the paintwork that needs attention on the drivers door sill area as previously posted then should be good for a while I hope:D

MOTs in Northern Ireland are done by MOT Centres set up by DVLA so I cant take advantage of the free MOT :( And for some reason we only have to MOT our cars when they turn 4 years old (not the usual 3 everywhere else)
I had a component of the suspension replaced under warranty a couple of weeks ago, you may remember from my thread? C links or something? I think the health check is offered anyway coming to the expiry date, well I was offered it anyway :)
I think i've heard about the window thing before Jim but can't recall where I seen it at, sorry. Something weird has been going on with my wipers but Audi found no fault codes and people thought I was going mad!
10 years NCB?! Youve been careful eh? I think my renewal isnt until April sometime but I paid ~£350 for fully-comp 6yrs protected NCB. Prices are dearer in Northern Ireland as car hijackings are more common here :(
Did you ever get any further with Audi about that corrosion Jim?
Oh and i'll reply to your PM within the next hour!

£264 for your insurance Jim? That's a great deal...who you with? I've just renewed mine with Aviva and the best I could get for 12 claim free years in Glasgow was £350. It would have been £316 but thanks to the wife getting caught doing 70 over the Kingston Bridge (a 50 limit) Aviva bumped it up. I thought I was doing well till I read your post.

Hi Jim,
With regards to the window, I have read a couple of solutions, albeit over in the C5 section. Some report that spraying the window rubbers with silicone spray fixes things, and I have also seen posts reporting that the plastic clips holding the glass can break (although remember this is fir C5 models so may not be appropriate in your case).
Good luck! Let us know how you go on.
Cheers!

Sorry mate, just got round to your reply.....a busy busy weekend and a very sore head :friday::fest30::fest30::fest30::friday:ALL WEEKEND!!
That quote was from Privelege.......I got the quote after using GoCompare as I do every year. I used to get the top 3 best quotes and then play them off against one another, could sometimes be good for another £40 - £50 off.
Now though, as the price is so low I can't really save that much.
Currently I'm insured with More Than
Hope it helps some:beerchug:

Thanks MF....I saw that too I think when I was researching it. I'm just trying to avoid using the window for the time being until I get it in to the dealer and fixed. Its not a major issue as I'm not using the car quite so much as the moment
All the best :beerchug:

A bit of a swerve off-thread- but-- regarding insurance -- Did none of you give 'site sponsor' Chris Knott insurance a chance ?.
Just re-insured my A6 with them for 2nd time .:D (and also my Van).

Have to be honest pete....I didn't try them.
Kinda if its not broke why fix it scenario I guess.
As for the pre end of warranty check? Add weak battery to the list, AGAIN
I'm still finding it suffering from poor / lazy start i nthe am or first thing.
Turn the key, sometimes wait for maybe a second or so ( whilst absolutely nothing happens ) then a very slowwwww and lazy start before she fires up:(

That sounds similar to the Irish Republic. They have NCT's once the car is 4 years old, then each second year after that. It is also done at specific test centre's where they only do NCT tests. Trouble is that sometimes you have to travel for over an hour to reach a centre in some of the rural parts pf the country - and the waiting lists can be very long, sometimes you might have to wait a month or two to get an appointment.
Having said that the one advantage is there is no chance that they are looking for work, it makes no odd's to them if cars pass or fail.

Ok guys - here's the update......
Called the dealer today and booked the car in for 1st March for Free MOT, pre end of warranty checks, warranty work and also for a basic service.
Thoroughly check the car as its coming to the end of its extended warranty 27th March 2011 and advise / complate any work as necessary.
Part of this may include the o/s/f & n/s/f anti roll bar bushes but we'll see on that one?
The drivers window will go down from the switch but NOT go back up. It will still operate from the keyfob and "global close" feature so that would suggest a switch fault I guess?
Poor start issues again - on turning the key to the ON position there is a 1-2 second delay before any cranking occurs, then it lazily starts to crank and usually catches, but it seems like a lottery whether it will or won't catch sometimes!
Rear light clusters - have condensation again. As some of you may know I'm on my 6th set I think it is, all replaced under warranty. I have stated that I may look at removing them and drying them out myself, possibly running some clear silicone around the edges to try and seal them. It looks like they may do this for me as part of this warranty / service arrangement, so we'll wait n see what happens on this.
Free dealer MOT to renew its certificate that runs out on 28th Mrch 2011
Service - The car was serviced in July 2010 at approx 72k miles and isn't required at present.
I have however asked for a price to complete an oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter change although early at 80k miles to freshen things up and been quoted approx £120 so I told them to complete this as well.
I mentioned about the paint corrosion on the drivers door sill area where they offered a £200 goodwill payment towards this. I explained that business is at an all time low and money's tight at present and wondered how long the offer was good for. They said that it was good for as long as necessary, obviously within reason, so I'll have to hold off on that just now!
Courtesy car all booked and good to go.
Sounds fairly positive at the moment so we'll have to see how it ends up.
I will of course come back and post the result
Thanks for reading

Interesting post Jim, thanks. I'm in a similar position - my A3 1.6FSI is out of extended warranty in April, due MOT at the same time. I'll be having a couple of things checked out when I take it in for MOT.
I had been wondering about the service though, it was serviced last April at 16.5k miles and by April that will be up to 29k-ish.
The DIS is telling me it doesn't need a service for a few thousand miles/months (can't remember the exact numbers) but I get a bit nervous about whether it's good for the car to let it go that long. I might do the same as you though and ask for the vitals such as oil change etc to be done. Sounds like it's worth doing for £120.

Thanks Jon - As the warranty is about to expire may a shortlist yourself of any issues and the nask them to do a thorough check over and above that.
As for the mileage / serice issue? To be honest ( and I know a lot of guys here don't like it ) I was initially on the longlife service intervals for the firsst 2-3 years as I was doing mostly motorway miles. I went for approx 18k or thereabouts before servicing with no issues.
My driving style has changed and I now mostly do stop / start around town and less miles and have went back to fixed servicing intervals of a year, possibly with an oil & filter change inbetween to keep things fresh and running smoothly.
I'm now saitting at 80k miles and want to baby her a little and lessen any chances of faults due to sludgy oil build up. but thats all down to driver preferences I guess.
Personally I think for that kind of money its a winner. You can alos bear in mind that National tyres will do an oil change using the correct oil for around £35 - £40 and might be worth considering too? :beerchug:
Hi Jim,
That price for the oil change can't be using the fully synthetic oil, can it? If so, it's a very good price!!
Mrs F's TT is officially on the longlife service plan, but because she does such short journeys we pay for an extra annual oil and filter change, still using the fully synthetic oil, but ask them not to reset the service interval reminder. Is this what you switched to?
Cheers!

Castrol Edge 05W30 at National tyres....cheaper than you can buy the oil / filter & DIY!!!
Yes, as you say I am on the fixed service interval and intend to probably do an interim oil / filter change around 6 months in between :beerchug:

Hey guys, well nearly that time for the work on the car.....pre end of warranty check, warranty work, MOT and mini service.
In preparation ( although not really necessary ) I thoroughly cleaned the car today, incl all door shuts, engine bay, windows inside n out tyres blacked and also let of a Comma Airfreshner for the A/C system.
The car looks great inside n out and smeels nice n fresh too. All bulbs etc checked and all ok, now sitting just a tad under 80k miles.
My belief is a well presented and clean car with little / few faults will be more likely to go through the MOT a little easier as it shows a well looked after vehicle......anyhow...
Here's my listing of work to be carried out on Tuedsay 2nd March....
Pre end of warranty check / health check carried out.
Drivers window goes down but not up from switch...WARRANTY
Poor cold start / lazy start....check, possibly replace battery..WARRANTY
Condensation in rear lights again!....dry out / replace..WARRANTY
Mini service inclu oil filter & oil change, fuel filter & air filter £120
Free Audi MOT
Considering these as well......
transmission fluid change and brake fluid change dependant on costings
Does anyone have anything to add or items I've missed perhaps?
Please feel free to chime in:beerchug:
PS - The paintwork on the bottom of the drivers door area is really bugging me. Depending on how all of the above goes & costs involved I may look at just booking her in ASAP to get this done soon.
I'll need to check with the bodyshop again how much they're looking for....£400 or so rings a bell and the dealership said they'll contribute £200
Thanks
Jim

Funily enough and as part of my "CLEAN" routine I washed the pedal rubbers removing baked in dirt n dust from the grooves :D:D :beerchug:
I did NOT spray them with back to black to make them shiny as some have been known to do:(......bad idea as its slippery stuff!

Make sure you top up the screenwash as well, full to the brim, or they will make you bend over and extract another £10 for that as well...!
I always remove all my personal belongings (including CDs, iPod etc) as well. And take a note of the mileage when you park it up at the dealer....

They never charge me for screenwash. Anytime the car is going in for work I sometimes very rudely leave the washer so low that it comes up on the DIS. Arrogant I know but free Audi screenwash lol.
The service advisor always takes note of whats in my car. I once left 2 laptops in the boot and they were untouched when I got the car back. On the mileage thing, I know where you're coming from, I once left my Xsara in at a mechanic (not my usual one) and the car came back with 50 extra miles on the clock! I trust my Audi dealer though so don't take note of the mileage :)
Just wondering - if you left the fuel light/dis on, would they fill the car with diesel? :biglaugh:

I'm with Chris on this one.....never ever been charged for anything even remotely like screenwash or anything as petty.....they know me and know I won't stand for it, but thanks for the tip:approve:
Always left anything in the car with no issues. Sometimes unconciously I take note of the mileage and or fuel situation but its not something I'm programmed to do.
On a side note, I once left the dealers and a few days later when cleaning noted a few bumps ( nothing serious and no paint broken ) but they were not there when the car went in.
I approached the dealer and made my concerns known with NO proof, absolutely none mind you.....It was 100%genuine!
They took my word for it and called a SMART repairer who fixed the damage in a little over an hour......Kudos to my dealer:beerchug:
Anyhow, we'll see how tomorrow goes.....

Just booked mine in for a service and MOT on the 14th. Enquired about the free MOT but decided to take the other offer of paying £50 which will pay for this MOT, plus the next one, and up to £750 of MOT repairs at Audi. As I figured that I will be keeping the car for a while it should work out (I hope).

I would be a little bit dubious getting my car`s M.O.T done at the dealership, I am a freelance mot tester and the delearship I recently spent half a day testing at were not even testing the brakes on certain models of audi. ( was supposed to be full time employment but told em to stick it because of the above) They were just entering figures into the vts computer ! They had been testing cars like this for 2 years !! The emphasis of the mot was to comment on as much as possible even if it was minute movement, then the sales team would take over in order to try sell the customer parts that they dont really need and may not need for quite some time !! After all they have to re-cooperate the "free mot" fee from somewhere ......

Each to their own I say....in some ways with some dealers / franchises you may have a point?
I used them with this service last year and it passed with flying colours and only advisory n/s/f & o/s/f anti roll bar bushes that I didn't get done at the time with them.
After 4 years and many many dealings with them I have to say I have faith in them and the personnel who work there to do the job in the best interests of myself, their customer :beerchug:
On that note, let me assure you I'm no mug and generally always get the best deals out there!
Having said that ask me if I still feel the same way tomorrow.......lol ;)

Ok guys, so here we are.....
Just got my car back around 11 am today and sooo glad to have her back. I wasn't particularly keen on the 2.0 tdi sline they gave me....nice car but the ride is a little harsh for my liking.
My SE with the 19" rims is just soooo smooth in comparison.....just my preference, must be getting old:D
Here's a listing below of work carried out and the costings involved.....
Carry out FREE visual and pre end of warranty health check
Carry out Audi FREE MOT....
Replace rear light clusters ( 9th set ) due to condensation - WARRANTY
Repair drivers window switch - WARRANTY
Repair rear seat belt connector - WARRANTY
Rplace battery, due to starting issues ( 3rd or 4th battery ) - WARRANTY
Carry out mini service to include oil filter, fuel filter, pollen and air filter, change oil and change brake fluid.
The MOT passed with flying colours, all warranty work completed & mini service done, including 3 day courtesy car ( no charges - usually £15 per day for insurance purposes )
Total cost incl labour / parts +VAT = ££168.76
I was called several times updating me on the progress of the work both by the Audi Mastertech & the service advisor.
For the work carried out, the warranty items replaced, the mini service AND the service offered I was COMPLETELY satisfied and more!
I also confirmed they're committment to offering £200 contribution towards my "paint corosion" problem on the drivers side door sill area to which they agreed as and when I get the work done.
Kudos to the dealer I say :beerchug:

Great news Jim, glad you got the car back in tiptop shape and all those niggles rectified :)
Did you get Audi to reset the service counter or just leave it until the next one?
Are you getting Audi to complete the work on the sill because of their donation or going privately?

To be fair Chris, in all probability yes....I had a private quote around £40 - £50 cheaper but I'd rather get the official Audi stamp on that if you know what I mean for the sake of that small amount of money
