Outside temperature indication in NAV mode

I have a Passat Estate Highline 2.0 TDI 140 DSG with RNS 510 DVD Sat Nav

When navigating (route guidance) is it possible to have an indication of the outside temperature somewhere?

At present I just Stop the Route guidance to view the outside temperature on the MFD (multi function display). It seems in the navigation mode there is no way of displaying anything other than navigation messages on the MFD.

Leave the route guidance on (don't stop it on the RNS510), use the steering wheel control buttons (left or right arrow key on right hand side of steering wheel) to scroll between radio/cd, fuel consunption & outside temp etc, then simply scroll back to the nav screen if that's what you want to see. You choose which screen you want to see when driving even if the nav is on.

I have had the car a couple of months now and spent ages trying to sort this out.
