Fumes can also get into the heater when the plenum chamber drain valves have been removed to prevent the plenum chamber filling up with water. Also, I have recently found that this does not work, I had one least week with a chamber full of water and the drains blocked by leaves even though the tubes were not there.
Crasher, you said this in another post concerning fumes getting in the car. We have this problem in our 54 A3 2.0 FSI sportback and I would like to deal with if I can. Could you tell me where the plenum chamber is located so that I can check.
Thanks for your advice which is very much appreciated.
